Tolling Motor Shaft Lenght ??

Featured Replies

Hey folks, i got a Nitro NX882 18' with a 150 Mercury, I am looking to buy a Minn Kota fortrex 101, What shaft lenght would be best?? How do i know whats best for my boat???

Thank you!!

what is your current shaft length?

I am going to say it is probably 45 inches.

I had a 45 in on my tracker 18 foot, when I got the terrova I put on it all I could get was 60 inch, installed no problem.

I would just measure your current trolling motor and go with that. The only real reason I would get something else would be if you HAVE to lower it all the way in rough water, I would then go with the next longest to  have the extra depth in rough water.

Like Brian said, You're probably good with the 45" unless you fish a lot of rough water.

I have a 52" on a Nitro Z7 I do fish some rough open water a 45" will come out of the water on the wave peak I have had  the 52" pop out. It all depends how rough the water is that you fish I fish the St Lawrence River and Lake Ontario in some of the kinds of water that Brandon Palaniuk fished this past year in an Elite tournament that he won in NY.

I had that same boat at one time and an 80# will be more than enough. I don't think you'll find space for another battery anyway.

I failed to mention in my previous post that I'm running a Minn Kota 36v 101 the Nitro Z7 has more than enough room for the total of 4 batteries I don't know about the NX882 though.

No room in the battery/0il compartment. You might could put it in one of the back left or right compartments. But an 80 will jerk that boat around like a canoe. I had a 67 on mine at first and fished many a tournaments with it.

I use a 52", but I fish in some pretty rough waters.
