I'm in the market for a new casting rod. Pretty sure it will be paired with the Abu Garcia RevoSX reel but my question is more about the rod. From everything I'm seeing it looks like the BPS Extreme Rods are a real good line of rods. I'm wondering is how well they size up to other rods in the $100 range as well as how they compare to rods of maybe slightly higher prices up to $150 which would probably be by max budget. I intend to get a 7+ H Fast action. Still undecided on length. Rod will be used mostly for fishing mats so very interested in the sensitivity of the rod. I know I loaded this topic up but I really appreciate any feedback. Thanks

You have tons of good choices around 100-150.00. I havent used a BPS extreme but i have used a carbon lite that i got on sale for 79.99 and that's a great rod for the price. I feel there are better rods in the price range though. Take a look at the st.croix premier, falcon bucco, castaway skeleton. Thats a few great American made rods all within your price range. If you don't mind where its made then shimano crucials, powell endurance, dobyns savvy, are all great. I'm sure i missed several other good choices since there are so many in that price range. Best bet is go check em all out! Get a good feel for all of them and compare fit and finish as well as warranty. That being said i don't think you could go wrong with a single rod i mentioned.

If you can go up to $150 you can get to rods like dobyns which are just as good maybe a slight better. I also like St Croix rods. There's many rods in this range but make sure you put your reel to rod only way you will know if it's a "perfect" fit.

The BPS Extremes are excellent rods in that price range.  I have several of them, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend  them.

Can't speak for bps rods but the *** *** black and powell max and endurance rod is what I can suggest. Check out tackle tour's review of the *** *** rod. Retail price for the powell max is 170 but they're on sale for 100-120. Retail for the endurance rod is 200 but on sale for 120. I think there's at least 1 that you want. (Fast Heavy 7')

I used to use the BPS Extreme rods exclusively. At one time I had I think 14 or 15 of them. Never had one issue with them. No breaks, no guide issues, nothing. I still use a couple that are probably at least 12 years old. The only downside to them is that they are nowhere near the lightest rod in the $100 range.

Abu revo sx + abu veritas = sweet combo.

For comparison purposes, I have a BPS Extreme (my very first casting rod) and one BPS Carbonlite (spinning rod).  Though the Extreme is a nice enough rod, it is pretty heavy.  I think the fit, finish, weight and sensitivity of the Carbonlite rod far surpases it.  I'd be willing to bet that the Extreme can take some punishment, if that's a concern for you.

 

Also, think about buying used on the flea market here.  Some great deals can be had now as people are trading up and selling their slightly used gear.

x2 on the weight ... they are a great rod otherwise.

Yes, it's a good rod but I agree with the comments above about it being heavy in weight.  I'd also mention that a H power Extreme is a pretty beefy rod, so keep that in mind.

 

Also, there's no reason to pay full price for that rod since they're very often on sale.

They come up on sale; last year I got two at $59 each.  Good rods for the money.

I bought one this year, wanted a cheap rod for one technique I rarely do, flipping, their 7'10 is tip heavyyyyy good overall construction though.
