best scent/attractant?

Featured Replies

hey all,

new to the website.  i've been bass fishing for quite some time, but never used any scent or attractant (my dad never used it, and i learned everything i know from him).  so, i'm curious what everyone's opinion is on the use of such products and what's a good brand, etc?

thanks for all your help!

Linzy, there are a lot of good fish attractants out there. There should be a wave of anglers in here shortly to let you know what they think is best/what they have had success with. I believe sometimes scent can make a difference on cold watyer conditions when bass have a small strike zone and arent as active. It might not start a feeding frenzy that day but if i believe the scent is going to get me maybe like 2-3 more bites im going to apply it to some of my baits.

I use 3 scents:

Megastrike

BaitMate Live

and Smelly Jelly

Megastrike is a little more sticky and i like applying it to basically anyhting.

As for Baitmate Live, i usually put some of this thick liquid in the hollow body of my frogs or tubes to give it kind of a scent trail. The forumula also has anise oil in it which makes it get rid of scents that repel fish.

Smelly Jelly- I use this sometimes in the same conditions i would use megastrike.

Try some scents and expiriment, and tell us how your results turn out.

I am a big fan of smelly jelly.  I have more luck with the bait fish scent and bass feast.  I would recommend some type of scent remover because the smell will stick to you hands.  Good Luck!

best scents are:

carolina lunker sauce

and

megastrike

it doesnt hurt 2 use scents but i cant guarantee that they really help u catch more fish

welcome aboard!!!!!

I use Fish Formula II or Baitmate (clear) with a ½ oz of pure anise oil added  :)

The best I've found is Kick 'N Bass.

The best I have used is Kick'n Bass. I prefer the garlic flavor. I have Kick'nBass, Smelly Jelly Pro Formula, Megastrike, FS 454, and Fish Formula in my boat, but use Kick'n Bass the most.

I use Megastrike or CB hawg Sauce.  I don't know is they help or not.  Just a confidence thing

I have used a lot of brands and still have 6-8 containers of various scents. MegaStrike is the easiest to use and I still carry a tube around. So, I still use some attractants occasionally, but when my MegaStrike runs out, I won't be buying anymore. I see NO difference using or not using scent.

I've personally never noticed a difference between using scent and not using it.   I'm sure it can't hurt, but I'm more likely to believe that its best use is as an incentive to keep the bait in their mouth longer - or maybe to encourage a strike if the bass is right up on a bait in a negative mood.

I went through a phase where I had to buy every scent out there and do "custom" scents and spray stuff all over my lures every 5 casts, but I just never noticed any appreciable difference in my catch rates.......and I went home smelling like a crawfish that had just eaten a dead shad made at an Italian restaurant.

Now I just have a can of BANG anise in the boat for those times when I feel the need to use it - - mainly because anise actually smells good so I don't mind getting it on myself.   :)
