I am new to this forum, and not so much to fishing bass. I have always used bait casters and find myself wanting to try a spinning rig. The reel is a pretty simple decision for me, but the rod......yes the rod is looking to be hard to figure. I basically want a spin rod that I can use for all purposes...............including creatures, cranks, and jerks. I am hoping somewhere on this vast website there will be some idea that I can use...Thanks, and Merry Christmas.

First off what is your budget for this set up?  Do you have a favorite brand?  I like the Veritas rods from Abu Garcia.  They are nice rods and can be found for under 100.00 all day.  Is this the best?? Maybe or maybe not.  This is a question that only you can answer. 

 

Go to your local tackle store and handle as many as you can.  You are sure to find one that feels better than the rest.  That is the one you need to buy.

6'8-7'0 medium fast; I like a rod with a 1/8-3/8oz weight range. Very very versatile in my opinion.

My 7' M veritas is the most versatile rod I own. I have it spooled up with braid and use it for plastics, spooks, frogs, poppers, spinners. The only thing I haven't used it for is cranking since I don't throw them too often, so I can't comment on that.

Fenwick Elite Tech smallmouth series rod. Look at the 6'9 medium xf rod. Probably one of the best rods one can get for general use in spinning. Retail is $130 but can be had for around the $100 mark +/-. Lifetime warranty, light, sensitive, well balanced, and just fishes well for a rod in its class.

One main factor to be considered is the kind of water you fish, heavy vegetation or fast current  and the poential to catch fish larger than bass, I'd lean to a 7' med 8/17 (which is what I use), depending on brand it could be a mh

Depending on your budget,you can spend from $75 to $200 on a good spinning rod. I have used the Veritas, Duckett, and the Denali Jadewood shakey head rod. They have all performed exceptionally well.

BPS Carbonlite is the best rod for $100

Run a 6-6 MH Fast it can do anything you ask of it. Light, sensative and powerful.

For me it's a 6'6 MH Fast spinning setup with a 30 series reel.  I spooled mine with 10lb Braid.  I will add an 8lb FC leader if necessary.

 

I have done everything on it including the mojo rig, drop shot, small frogs, KVD 1.5's, weightless senkos etc.

 

I have one with me all the time (literally  ).  

Tournament rod - one piece

In the car - 2 piece with small tacklebag (for those emergency bass moments)

Travel - 3 piece from BassPro.

I would go just a little bit heavier, maybe 3/16-5/8 oz.

You really need a price range if you want some specific

recommendations.

 

 

 

I'm in the same boat... but I need a 2 piece because I travel with it on my book bag. I've been looking at the Abu Garcia Vengeance 2-piece spinning rod for $50, Anyone used/here anything about that rod? Any other 2-piece rods MF rods for $100 range?
