Let me say that was a ton of fun! Heck he wasn't even all that big and put up decent fight. It's a shame it was the only one I caught with a spinner bait. But I got my new arsenal of stuff coming in tomorrow and I can't wait to try it.

Nice pea..........I wasn't so fortunate.

I start the day with a small snook about 5-6 pounds, then at sunrise I get tapped and see a pretty big jack swimming off.  Then I did some peacock fishing and had several nice blow ups behind the lure, but didn't land one.  Unusual for both jacks and peacocks not to take the hook.

Are peacocks invasive or are they stocked by the DNR?

The FWC stocked the Peacock back in the 80's to control some other invasives species. They have the same protection as gamefish with similiar bag limits. No one kills them.

Sorry to hear that SirSnookaLot. I had several blowups at tropical park as well with a mini torpedo but they didn't hit. Then I lost the dang thing in the cattails with one of them wacky casts that go out of control, was not happy!

 

Roadwarrior : Yeah like Shane said they were stocked, and apparently the project went well. But I did hear that when we had our last "cold front", some of our crops froze over and stuff, couple years ago, a lot of the peacocks died in broward and north of broward. They are native to the amazon and don't do well in the cold. They get HUGE down there in the amazon. Check out addictive fishing on youtube. They have an amazon episode and they catch some monster ones. They have 3 species over there as well. Speckled, Butterfly (which is what we have here) and Blue peacocks I believe.

Peacock are sure special here in south Florida. You know almost immediately you have something special hooked when you set the hook on a decent size one. Long crazy runs, airborne flips, and none stop action even when landed. One of the best gamefish anywhere I'm the world.

When it comes to freshwater peacocks maybe my favorite in South Florida.  Prior to the freeze they were every where in Palm Beach county, not the case now and I'm really having to hunt to find them.  Most of the ones I'm catching in PB are small, but when I get one over 3# it's nice treat on light tackle.  

awesome fish buddy im glad u had fun with it,thats what its all about (fun)..1 area that has always been very productive for me going back to the early 80's is all the canals on gables water ways.there even gators in there (seen them).i would put a jon boat at dinner key marina & hit the canals,ive got snook,snappers,look downs,cat fish,peacocks,small tarpon,cudas,sheepshead,grunts.always during the week (no holidays) and especially at night!!.at night u can hear fish jumping all over..

Jonny whats a good bait to use for night fishing? 

for fresh or salt water???..real bait or fake?? and what fish do u have in mind 2 go after?

I'm new to freshwater fishing. I've done plenty of saltwater so I'm pretty good in that department.

for me personally,the lure that has produced the most hits & fish thruout all my years and in all different water conditions & with all sorts of fish,has been the black & silver minnow that rattles..thats my #1 lure.ive got jacks,bass,peacocks,snappers,oscars,u name it..for a while ive beens sticking to live baits that i get with my net,that always produces fish for me hands down.

They are only a SE FL fish. Farthest North is Palm Beach the farther SE, the higher their populations. West Coast does  not have pea's.
