Sprite And Mt Dew

Featured Replies

The guide gut hooked a fish that swallowed most of the hook the other day. She got it straight out. It was bleeding pretty bad. She got a can of sprite from her cooler filled with ice and poured about half the can in its mouth. How does this help and why these two sodas?

Joe

I have no facts on this, but my guess would be that it almost burns the wound shut. Or that it retracts the blood vessels causing the bleeding to stop. Rumor has it its the citric acid in the soda.

I was thinking about the same. Maybe it helps to clean it too? I would say sprite is probably better since it maybe has less dyes.

Hah I have never heard of that before she better be careful she may give those fish diabeties lol

I've read that the citric acid shrinks the capillaries in the wound to reduce the bleeding. Not sure if it is true though

I saw them use MD on Lunkerville

Don't do this.  Those products aren't meant for animals, and contain harmful chemicals.

Instead, use something designed for bleeding fish, such as Please Release Me.  There's no guesswork or potential harmful effects with it.

They are a sponsor listed on the right margin. Catch & Release.

It's readily available through BPS, TW, Cabelas, etc.

And no, I'm not just saying this to plug a sponsor.  I've used their products for decades because they work.  I'm thoroughly convinced they make the best fish care products on the market. Plus, my skin just crawls every time somebody recommends flushing soda down a fish's throat!

Bass blood coagulates and clots in water no need to poor soda in its throat either release quickly or place in your live well and the bleeding will stop.

or have her read up on here about how to get a gut hook out properly

She would have ignored it. She had plenty of direction and advise to give, but honestly she seemed like everything she had to say was the gospel.

Sounds like she didn't go to the school of Disneyland customer service...

Lot of that going around

Thanks Glenn I'm gonna log on BPS through BR and grab myself a bottle. The soda thing interested me, thanks for setting me straight. I've learned so much so far I might need to start keeping notes.
