When Bass Are Tiny, What To Do?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I was wondering if someone could give me some advice or idea on a fishing problem i faced a few times this past fishing season.

There was a few times, when I was fishing, that I was only catching tiny maybe 3-5 inch bass. They were actually hitting a kvd 1.5 crank bait. It seemed all day long was just these tiny little fish. I was fishing shallow on main points on the lake.

Anyone have any idea on what was going on, and what I should of done in this situation?

Thanks

Daryl

Some suggestions that come to mind are go deeper to main lake structure and use bigger lures

Sounds like only little ones were there at the shallow that day. I would fish deeper or some different spots.

You could try a jig or a big Texas or Carolina rig on the same point that will normally weed out the little ones and if you aren't catching fish on that try a Yum money minnow on a swimbait hook or a bigger square bill like a 2.0 or 2.5

I would slow down and see if they are lower in the water column.  Using a fluke or senko find the closest drop off  and see if they are under the smaller bass.  When having problems slow down, and then slow down more.

At my local lake there is a spot I always go that the baby bass hang out in the early morning.  (Fingerlings)  I always hit that spot, they are just as good as a school of shad/baitfish.

Little bass don't like hanging with big bass, but the feeling isn't mutual  :tongue8:

It's possible that your lake supports a population of stunted bass,

where the best move might be to another body of water.
