need a new set of polarized sun glasses. looking for the best bang for your buck in polarization, customer service, and quality. give me some direction to look into thanks guys.

I think the general rule of thumb, is the best you can afford, or convince yourself to spend. Costa Del Mar, Oakley, Maui Jims, Wiley X on the low side.

Go to a dealer and try on different frames.

Buy the ones you like.

Cocoon with copper lenses. I love mine. Reasonable prices too. I paid @ $45.

Out on a limb here, but I'm not convinced that the high dollar glasses do a better job than the inexpensive ones. I have a pair of green tinted 580's from Costa, but can't use them effectively unless I'm in bright sun. For me any polarized amber or gray lens beats them most days. The ones under $20 seem to work just as well at cutting down the glareas those $200 ones. Guess I've tried about 30 different brands and half of them were probably made in the same far eastern factory.

oakleys for sure! i have both costas and oakleys, all around i like the oakleys better. one of the reasons is the costas frame curve to your ear well i dont like that since i wear my sunglasses tucked in my hat and the oakleys have a straight frame so it makes them alot more comfortable

^5 on the Cocoons.  I wear scripts and start fishing before sun up, I wear flip ups and they do an excellent job, $19.95.

Any Polycarbonate lenses with uv protection will perform on a pretty equal basis.  As far as non-script glasses go find a frame that's comfortable.

Ok, but there IS a problem with that.  30 years from now, it's the stuff coming THROUGH those cheaper glasses that will really affect your eyesight.

I dont have any problems seeing what I need to see with Costas.

I really wanted to get Costas but couldn't find a frame that fit my big head.  I ended up buying a pair of Natives for $99.  While I would never argue that they're as good as Costas, I've been very happy with the purchase.  When Costa starts making a frame that fits my noggin, I'll probably pull the trigger to see what all the fuss is about, until then I'll stick with the Natives.  On another note, the Natives also have a no questions asked replacement warranty. (I believe it's $30)

Most qualified sunglasses are approved by FDA guaranteed in safety and durability. They are usually manufactured according to certain regulations. This is good news for sunglasses wearers.

In a word, UV protective sunglasses are essential and very important for people who often go outdoors. But the expensive ones are not absolutely better than those cheap ones in protection.

I've been told this by opticians for years.

  Interesting the number of folks suggesting Oakley's. I have a pair, and they were not cheap. They are by far my least faorite and only used if there is no other option. I have Solar Bats, Costa Del Mar's, Cocoons, Eye Surrenders, Oakley's, Ocean Waves, Bucci, Scott, Maui Jims, and a few others I cant remember right now. I wear the Eye Surrenders the most, with the Costa's close behind. The Eye Surrenders are $39 with a great warranty.

Here my pair of $180 Oakley Warden Polarized at 3 1/2 years old. The outer coating is wearing away so I dont wear them anymore. Now I cant be sure if its my fault or they are defective so Ill pass judgement. I used my shirt to clean the lens so this might have lead to the wear. They say to use the microfiber cloth and I did the first year but stopped after that.

I do feel though that as long as the lens of any brand meets 100% UVA/B protection a $200 pair wont protect any better than a $50 pair. You are paying for frame material and mostly name.

I have worn Oakley, RayBan, Spy, and some of the cheap 20 dollar brands, but I got a set of Native glasses a few months back and I don't see myself buying any other brand for a while.
