Its about time. Have had this thing sitting in the living room waiting to be mounted for the past two months when I got it on the 20% off TW sale. Set up the motor lifts at my buddies shop and got it on with no issues whatsoever. 2 hours all said and done between pulling the motor, mounting the bracket, reattaching the motor a wiring/ installing the talon on the bracket.

Im planning on getting the security locks. But it spends it's time in the drive way under a cover so the tilt bracket doesn't do me any good. None of the lakes I fish even have bridges that are less than 100' above the water anyway. Now if we finally get a garage or pole barn Ill make sure it clears it!

I think so!!!! But, Id have to upgrade to a 24v system ..... then a 24v trolling motor! WOOT!!

That's actually a Talon, and no, you do not need a jackplate. The OP used a sandwich bracket. It gets mounted between the motor and transom. I have mine mounted directly to the transom. Minn Kota Talon and Power Pole have a number of different mounting brackets available depending on your needs. They come with the direct to transom mounts. Any other mount(s) must be ordered separately.

Slonezp is right. I wanted to mount directly but the configuration on the inside of the boat had foam cavities surrounded in aluminum which prevented any access to the bolts from the inside of the boat so I was forced to use the sandwich bracket which worked like a charm. I know it works in the driveway, now if I could only get to some water thats not covered in 5 inches of ice

Awesome dude thanks for taking the time to answer my question I just got my first boat last summer and have always wondering about that question I had. Tyvm So If I order a talon or a pp it would come with a transome mount and bolt right on ?? By the way I have a nitro z6

I am looking at a Talon myself to go on my tracker but I was a little skeptical about the direct transom mount. Does it seem sturdy? You satisfied with it?

There's a thread on here somewhere of my install. Here's some pics

 

Very sturdy. I mounted it with the optional tilt bracket. Put a cutting board in between the bracket and the transom because of clearance issues. Sealed up everything with 3M5200. It took about 2 hours including the wiring. I wired it straight to the battery but they sell a plug and receptacle. There are optional locks and quick releases as well. The bolt go thru the transom and there are fender washers in the splashwell. All the parts were included in the package except the 5200 and the cutting board

They are both good. Only real reason I went with the Talon is because there was no chance that I could fit anything else in my battery compartment even though the PP hydraulic pumps are relatively small. The talon is all electric and I just had to run the wire.

 

It doesnt matter what trolling motor voltage you are running also. It hooks up to your cranking battery which is always 12v

6 of 1, 1/2 dozen of the other. They run on 12v. Connected to the starting battery. Talon is easier to install and slightly less expensive. Takes up less space because it's electric. The power poles are hydraulic and the pumps take up space. Power poles are nicer looking
