Quick Question On Reel Ratio/application

Featured Replies

This year I would like to have 3 baitcast setups frog, jig, t-rig. If you had 3 reels one 6.5 and the other two were 7.1, what would you suggest for what application? I only have one rod so far which is a MH F. Thinking of getting another MH (t-rig or frog) and a H (jig)? Thank you for your help.

For me.

Frog - 7:1

Jig - 7:1

Trig - 6:4

7.1 Frog

7.1 Jig and Trig

I know that you didn't bring it up, but could use the 6.5 MH combo for a Spinnerbait?

I've got a bunch of set ups and the only reels tht aren't 7.1 are my crank bait reels. But your frog and jig need to be 7.1

For these application and most times in general don't be as concerned about the gear ratio, as you are the I.P.T. you may find that the 6.5:1 reel has an equally high I.P.T as the 7:1:1 reels your using, just depends on spool diameter. Any of the reels you have listed will work fine for any of the techniques you listed. Pair them up so they balance well with the rod you intend to use.

7.1 for the frog rod, other than that I don't think it really matters

Thanks for all the feedback. My 6.5 has an IPT of 27 where as the 7.1 has 29. Thank you for the advice Avery. I think I am going to run with rippin-lips suggestions for setups and make sure the reels balance on the rods before I pick them. Thanks again guys.
