Repaired St. Croix Rod!?

Featured Replies

I recently purchased a St. Croix Mojo Bass Wacky Style Rod off of ebay. The rod's tip was snapped and then repaired, but the rod lost 6 inches in the process. It is originaly 6'8, its now 6'2. I purchased it for 50$ including shipping, was this a mistake? The rod is originally an extra fast action, is it an even faster action now that it is shorter?
Thanks for any advise.

Yeah it'll be more broom stick like. Probably make a nice short quarters jig rod or heavy jerkbait/top water rod

In my opinion, you made a mistake. the rod will be even stout, not faster. I'm assuming the rod lost 6in from the tip. if it was from the butt section and only lost a little off the tip and it was repaired that way, it wouldn't be so bad. if it lost 6 in from the tip, i'm going to be honest, you threw 50$ away.

We tried to tell you in your original thread asking about that rod.  6" off the tip of any rod is going to drastically alter the way the rod fishes.  You might be able to use it for something but not for what it was originally intended.

Waste of money in my mind.  A $100 rod you got for $50 that isn't even the same rod now.  And it will be faster as the original flex section will be shortened making the rod faster and as has already been stated, it will also be stiffer.  I have a 6'6" st croix MH bait caster that i lost the tip on down to 2" to the next guide which was removed and then replaced with a tip.  it is considerably more stiff and faster in action but it works pretty well for a close quarters spinnerbait or jig rod.   I would say it is now a HXF.

6" off the tip of any bass rod will render it pretty much useless unless you need a short broom stick for some heavy bait. Trimming from either end of a blank slows the action. Off the butt reduces power and off the tip raises lure weight range.

After reading all of your comments, I posted the rod on craigslist. If I say yes, I have a buyer for 45$ I bought the rod for 50 so I'm only losing 5 bucks...

only taking a $5 hit to learn this leason is very cheap.  Get rid of the rod, it's useless.

Sell that sucker as quick as you can.

Yeah I'm selling it to the guy, sorry about not heeding all of your advice. I know it's my money on the line but still a waste of your time if I don't listen. This year is the first year I'm investing in fishing. I've been using the old uglystick/shakespeare for the past three years.  I guess I'm a little impulsive due to constantly dreaming of fishing DUE TO ALL OF THIS DAD-GUM SNOW!

I wonder how long it'll take for the new owner to join and post about his short broomstick and why is it so stiff

I specifically said in the craigslist post that it was 6"2 repaired, and that it would make a good topwater/closequarters rod so the man knows what hes getting into. Hopefully he can use it, I can only afford to have one spinning and one baitcasting outfit so I need rods that'l work
