Dobyns Champion Vs St. Croix Avid

Featured Replies

Generally the same price point... two of the more talked about rods in the 200$ range. Which one would you pick and why?

I have and fish both rods, they are both very solid at their price point, many things about them are very equal but in the end I give a slight nod to the Dobyns line of rods based on the fact that many in the Avid line are tip heavy and the Dobyns are among the best so far a balance is concerned. Both very solid, and you would be happy with either.

Dobyns. Fought a 25lb+ asian carp on mine and it didnt break even with all the pressure the fish put on it. Perfectly balance, great rods.

I'd give the nod to Doybns as well as i've fished both. the avid is a great rod but the balance on the champion is what sets it apart. if you are into some more cosmetics the dobyns has that too. as far as sensitivity, i'd give the dobyns the slight nod but it's pretty close.

I have both rods as well. I lean toward the dobyns because you have more height options compared to the Avid line.  Both are great rods.

I always thought the Champion series was more in competition with the Legend Tournaments not the Avid line?  For me anyways, don't seem like a "fair" comparison.  :eyebrows:

Dobyns Champion should be better, they are $50 to $80 more. There are actually many more choices in the Avid line. If you look at Saint Croix's site you'll see, but Avid isn't entirely dedicated to bass fishing like Dobyns.

I Like the avid but I very much prefer the champion. If anything it justb flat out balances better which is worth it to me. But I think the champion is a better overall rod than the avid
