Small Outbaord For My Jon Boat...

Featured Replies

I recently bought a used 14' jon boat less motor.  I'm wondering what would be a good choice for this boat.  Two stroke or four stroke? The transom is 16"  so I believe a short shaft will be in order.  Mercury, Honda, Johnson, Evinrude...???   What to look out for if buying a used motor...?  Thanks for any input.

two stroke whatever, less weight. weve covered used boats/motors on here quite a bit. really depends on what you wanna spend. a $500 deal motor is different than a $5000 deal motor.

Buy a used Evinrude/Johnson.  From Late 80s Early to Mid 90s.  They are bulletproof.   Get a 9.9HP.  If you feel limited on it's speed, you can add a 15HP carburetor making it a 15HP.  It's really simple.

Look around and find a later model tohatsu 9.9-18 two stroke. 9.9 to make it a 15 is a throttle cam and linkage, same carb!

x2 these little old motors are near bulletproof
