Strike King Shadalicious Hook??

Featured Replies

What hook do you guys use for the 4.5 inch SK Shadalicious? I tried a Owner Weighted Twistlock 5/0 1/8 oz hook and it seemed to be rolling over in the water.

Thats the exact same setup i use, only a gamakatsu hook. You must make sure they are rigged perfectly straight on the hook!

I found some 4/0 eagle claw with the metal weedgaurd cant wait to fish it across the weeds and drop it in some holes.

5/0 Gammy weighted superline hook, 1/8 oz. I always seem to rip the screw-in type hooks out of the bait and wreck it. Can catch several fish on the Gammys.

I don't use a swimbait hook any more. For sure not on shadalicious any more. The nose on those are super garbage IMO compared to others. Just casting your screw lock will pull out. I use a tube jig head completely inside the body. I only use screw locks on solid baits like a keitech or something when I need to go weedless. Try it and you will never use a screw lock again.

How fast are you retrieving the bait? Some swimbaits require a slower retrieve to truly work effectively. I find that slow rolling swimbaits is much more effective. I mostly use weighted 5/0 or 6/0 hooks for swimbaits of that size.

Fast enough to just keep it off the bottom.

Try using the Owner Beast weighted swimbait hook.  The weight sits much lower and more to the rear of the hook and this will help a lot with the bait rolling on you.  I also really really REALLY like the Owner TwistLock Light which is the same style hook as the Owner CPS you are using but again, the weight sits farther back on the hook and will help prevent rolling.  This hook only comes in 3/32oz. and I think it would match up perfectly with the 4.5" swimbait you are using.  My other suggestion is to toss the Shadalicious in the garbage.  From my experience, they are way inferior to other paddletails on the market.  A great bait that catches em for me trip after trip is the Big Bite Baits Cane Thumper.  It comes in a 5" and 3.5"  They are a little slimmer and kick just as much as the Shadalicious but it's slimmer so it comes through cover better and it's much softer.  Even though it is softer the centering pin spring system on the Owner swimbait hooks keeps them going for awhile.  Once the nose wears out, bite off about a 1/4" of it and re-rig and you are good.

Good luck, my man!!!
