When fishing out of a boat how many rods do you have set up?

 

I have 6.

As a co-angler, I take 4. A 6'9" MH, a 6'10" M, a 7' MH, and a 7'3" H

between 25-30 depending on the lake ( some lakes that don't have matted vegetation the heavy frog gear and punching gear stays home)... When i was a co angler I brought around 10...

10 as a co??  Usually you don't see that many, any boater ever say anything to you?

I've got 9-10 ready to go in the boat usually, but I'll usually pull out 5-6 at a time depending on the day and where I'm fishing.

8-12 on deck on average. If I'm dedicated to fishing one certain bait (usually a large swimbait) I'll take 1 rod and just a few other swimbaits. 

Lol I feel inadequate.... I take 4, thats all I own! That a canoe only has so much room... 

I take 8-10. But I dont just go for bass either. I have the crappie setup, trolling, walleye, and a muskie/pike rod.

I've got nice rods and reels for fishing out of the boat I'll normally take the 5-6 I actually need (usually only end up using 1-2 once I figure something out). If I'm just going to a pond I'll grab a little spinning reel maybe one of my older rods and reels I've retired

I have a little Porta-Bote.  I usually take 4 or 5.  More if going by myself.  Would love to have a bass boat with enough locker space to carry 30 rods.  But then I wouldn't have been able to afford the 30 rods. 

I try to keep it under 12.

No most of the events I fished as a co were team tournaments, and I typically ended up catching 4-5 of the 6 that we would weigh in, so no complaints from my boater... If i fished the tournaments where it is individual weight i would probably bring the maximum allowed by the rules, or up to 10 whichever comes first...

I know in NY state, the legal limit of rods per person is 3, so I always take 3. I have more than 3, but I pick 3 to take based on where I'm fishing. Do any other states have a maximum rod law?

i think that usually means the number of rods you can have fishing per person at the same time, like trolling for walleye or other species using multiple rods simultaneously. MN has a max of 1 per person...

Here the max rods in the water at one time is three. You can take as many as you want with you though.

A lot of the time I will cast out two rods for catfish, then bass fish with a third rod. That's double the amount of fishing in one trip ha ha!

Really? I sure hope that's the case because it's tough deciding which 3 setups to take with me. I'm gonna have to check in to that. I really hope you're right.

I'll keep six on deck and another four in the rod locker.  That doesn't count the spare rods and reels I also keep on board.  As a co-angler I kept it to six or under as available space was an issue.

im pretty sure thats 3 rods in the water at the same time, you can carry more, you just cant fish more that three at a time..

 i carry a frog rod, a jig and worm rod, a crank bait, spinner bait and top water rod. 2 spinning reels, and a swimbait rod,thats when im out on my yak fishing all day. if im going to a pond ill bring 3 or 4 with me.

This is great news. I have always thought the law meant no more than 3 rods per person on boat, which makes it really hard to choose which setups to bring with me. I wish I had found that out earlier.

how are you storing all those rods on a yak? would love to see how you have it set up, looking at different ideas for mine.

Put a plastic crate in the back. Cut 2 inch wide pvc pipes to disired length. Mine are about a foot long or little longer. Drill small holes on the bottom of pvc pipe. Then zip tie them down. I use bungie cords around the middle,to,pull all the,pvc pip

Close together. You can put,how many you want in there. And my yak has two side rod holder's. Which i put peices of Styrofoam to make the butts of my rods fit snug in there

Haha that would suck for bass fiahing on a boat only three rods. I mean its dueable but no very fun
