Fishing After A Heavy Rain?

Featured Replies

I've always heard the fishing is crappy a day or 2 after a heavy rain. I'd like to get out today but id rather not if you think it'd mess with the fish! what do you guys think?

It's true that post frontal conditions can hurt fishing. In the summer it means bluebird skies and raising barometric pressure which really turn fish off then. Being that it's spring it could actually help some. If it was a warm rain, it'll help to raise the water temps and the sunny skies will help to do the same. In the summer it will turn them off more than it will now, but either way it's no reason NOT to go. It's still fishing after all!

Good point! thanks

If your having no luck , DOWNSIZE your lures and fish slower. It can be the difference between a ZERO and catching fish.

You have something better to do than to go fishing ?

Heavy inflow from feeder brooks on large rivers or in lakes and ponds can concentrate insane numbers of bass.  It can be temperature related or food related. Often times there is also a water clarity change as well, muddy to clear, stained to clear, etc which can create great ambush areas that bass love to use.

In small water the issue is a lack of dissolved oxygen. Heavy rain can result in oxygen depletion.

Truly every day on the water is a gift. An adventure to learn from. Have had both slow and awesome days after bad weather. But they always beat days at work or mowing the yard.

If I feel like fishing......I go fishing. I don't worry about fronts or recent conditions.........just go out fish and enjoy!
