I have a 2009 Subaru Forester, and I was just wondering if anyone had some tips as to the best way for transporting some of my one piece rods. From the inside of the back gate to the back of the front seats (with the rear seats down) measures 6ft.

I had asked this question a while back and got many responses. I ended up building a little rack out of PVC for my crv. Works great. Here is the link to my thread.

Put them in the back and run the tips up in between the front seats. 

Put them in the back and up to the front. There will be more than enough room between the seats.

I built a rod box to secure the rods from rolling around - the box holds tackle as well. The rod tips extend forward in-between the front seats. Couple photos below. The construction details of my box are in the thread referenced by stk in Post #2 of this thread.

A word of warning on those, make sure your rods fit before just going out and buying one. I've got a 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee that fits my rods just fine laying down over my folding 2nd row seating and tips came up between the seats a little. I was going to pull the trigger on one before even checking thinking I'd have plenty of room but decided to go out and just look quick. Found out because of the shape of the body, the roof space is significantly less and my rods wouldn't fit.

This is what I ended up doing for our trip from IL to OK (3 people, 1 dog).  worked out pretty well.

 

The rod saver is the way to go if you've got the space for it.  You'll have to measure.  I have a 98 Ford Explorer Sport (the 2 door model) and I can fit 20 rods, + or - a few on mine.

I too just run mine from my trunk through to the front of the car.  However, I always have a rod sock on regardless of how many rods I'm carrying and would recommend using a sock to anyone unless they have a setup like stk   

Thanks for the ideas everyone! I don't think the straps that go from hanger to hanger will work in my vehicle, so I may end up using the PVC pipe idea.

I have a 2009 Subaru Forester too! I just lay mine from the back to the front, in between the front seats. If I am going on a trip I lay them on top of everything with a pillow/blanket between rods/reels to keep them from banging around. I have not had any issues yet...

I took the back seats out of my sedan to fit my kayak. When I'm just shore fishing the rods fit on an angle. My swimbait rod is too long so that goes straight ahead between the front seats...

Thanks for all the input guys!  My main issue is that being at college, I would like to leave my rods in the car while driving around with others, or just when having more than one person in the car with me, I am too worried of breaking off the tips/eyes.

I personally wouldnt leave mine in the car all the time, but if I did have others in the car they would have to understand that a seat may be down or there are rods by their heads. If someone is in the passenger seat but no one in the back I will still have them through the middle of the two seats.  If there are people in the back I will put them ontop of a tackle box and run them from the trunk over the back seat with the tips somewhat near the ceiling of the car. My friends know that they will have to deal with fishing stuff at times. They understand and it all works out. But typically I kept mine in the dorm until I was going fishing, didnt trust all the people walking through the parking lots at the university

I generally don't leave my stuff in my car either, the ski's always came out this past winter and the poles usually will too... but if I know I will be using them again later that day or early the next morning I feel like it would be nice to have the option of leaving them in. 

 

Still debating the best option a little, have to decide soon though, heading back to school with my gear Sunday afternoon/evening (hoping for some nice weather here in NY... haha).
