Maybe it was that way because we were raised by the greatest generation, and we ended up raising the kids that we now shake our heads about.

Great video! The difference between then and now is parents. Parents being there, caring and following through. More often than not, you are a product of your environment, and your parents create that for 18 years.

Statistically speaking the odds of there being many posts in this thread are slim?

Sorry guys, the major difference has been caused by our government.

 

No helmets to ride bikes; no seat belts on swings; no car seats mandatory; no children in back seats of cars until a certain age; tackle football after school in the old lot; baseball with only a leather glove between you and the Lord after school; fishing ponds without a PFD; swimming in ponds or lagoons for fun without regard to the hazards; flipping cousins over in a pirogue; no climbing trees; and on and on and on.

 

It's a wonder anyone made it out of the 50s or 60s.

 

Then again, we started the sexual revolution. That was fun.

The difference between then and now is parents.

 

My kids are grown-up. My son is a doctor and his fiancee is a pediatrician.

My daughter married an engineer and recently completed her Masters Degree.

After bringing our first grandchild into the world next week, she will be teaching

and pursuing a PhD.

 

Not every Millennial is lost, but without parental involvement, their struggle is challenging.

In many communities today's youth have no male role models. Without the support of 

"family" young people find it hard to find direction. There are no simple answers, but

the first step is being involved.

Great video - yup, I did all those things.  Plus hopped on freight trains, climbed across the frozen Delaware River, hiked parts of the Appalachian trail without adult supervision, and rode our bikes behind the mosquito spraying truck. Stupid stuff (yet fun), and lived to tell.

I see no use in apologizing for the first part of your statement , I agree , too much involvement , as for the second part , what do you mean was ?  

Well my number 1 son has two degrees one in robotics the other in mechanical engineering. Plus he has the hands n knowledge about structural design, welding and fabrication and CAD SYSTEMS

 My daughter has one degree in accounting and another degree in marketing. My other son is a cabinet maker. All of them own there own homes and have 401k's. There all in the mid to late 30's. Me and the misses are very proud of them. They all worked for what they have.   Bigbill
