Weedguards On Chatterbaits?

Featured Replies

So I am planning on putting in some time this year with chatterbaits and noticed that most don't seem to have weedguards. Don't they hang frequently in heavy grass/vegitation without one?

I am not a chatterbait expert, but I have fished them enough. They come through grass good without a weedguard.................wood however....not so much.

Even with a weedgaurd it can still get caught in heavy enough vegetation but normally chatterbaits are fished in the same scenario as you would a spinnerbait so it is not intended for heavy grass/vegetation. Hope this helps

HitchHicker or Owner CPS attached the the jig head hook eye and add a 1 1/2-2" long worm section to cover the exposed hook point, weedless and added color without a weedguards.

If you want weed guards just throw a blade on a swim jig.

I build a bladed jig on a swinging football head with a 5/0 Owner Twistlock XXX hook. The free swinging hook gives it a double jointed action and just add whatever trailer to the back and texpose rig it and you can fish it through timber and most vegetation. It's not hard to build a standard bladed jig with a weedguard but I much prefer this style.

I use the HitchHikers also.FWIW found out i get better action out of blade when i attach it around the outside of jig eye instead of thru it.Also i texpose a havoc grass pig for trailer.
