Clear Water Experts Question 2...

Featured Replies

What are your thoughts on rattling vs. silent crankbaits for clear water? I wish they made the 3xd in silent.

Sunline FC Sniper Flourocarbon....clear or invisible green? I love the sunline super mono in green (confidence).

I use silent when it is calm and rattles when it's not. On line color, I use both green and clear.

Go with your confidence color!

I'd go with silent since the bass can see the bait fine.  I like rattling for murky of stained water.

Remember what I replied ? guess what is my answer to your qustion ?

Half of the time I catch fish with silent baits, half of the time I catch fish with rattling baits, you don´t know which one will work until you try. On the other hand, bass can find a non rattling crank in almost plowable water just because they can feel it, they don´t need to se to find and bite, on the contrary it´s easier for you to make them bite when they can´t see.

3 + decades of bass fishing had shown me that lesson.

rocks- use rattling... weeds- use silent... unless it doesn't work then switch them, or use a jig...

All crank baits make a lot of underwater noise via vibration and hooks. Easy to drill a 1/16 diameter hole in the lures belly and superglue the rattles, seal the hole or just buy silent models. I always use rattling cranks at night, day it's trail and error, no set rule.

I like rattles in dirty water and when they're buried up in the weeds or cover to help call them out. I use silent baits a majority of the time anymore.

I would go silent for clear water. Sunline makes a great FC and you will like that line. I usually go with green for reaction baits when line watching is non factor and I'll use clear for jigs, texas rigs and bottom bouncing baits where line watching is critical. My eyes can't see the green ..

I do tend to like quieter cranks in more clear water with a smaller profile and tighter wiggle. That being said, it's not a hard and fast rule. If the usual quiet and subtle isn't working in clear water, do the opposite and see what happens.

Is superglue the best thing to use or is there a better alternative?

The slightest amount of super glue will glue together the rattles other glues won´t and you´ll need more, adding more glue will change or ruin the bait action.

BTW, not all the cranks have silent and rattling versions.
