Kvd Line And Lure

Featured Replies

Well after everyone talking it up I decide to buy some since the majority of my set ups now are spooled with flouro. How do ya'll treat line that's already on a reel? Just spray it on, or do I need to cast out and treat in layers as I reel it back in?

Just spray it on liberally the night before you go out. At least that's what I do and it works just fine.

I spray it on the night before I go and then when I get back from fishing. So, before and after.

The best time is the night before you go out but, if you forget to do your reels the night before. Not a big deal you can spray your reels when on the lake and it will take a bit longer to work in. It is great stuff just spray the line on your reels!

I do both here and there. Sometimes I cast it and spray as I reel in. Sometimes I just spray a bunch on the spool.

Either way works.

What everyone said....

A tip when changing line....don't use a cotton rag to apply as you reel new line on.

Take an old nylon sock, or anything that isn't absorbant, wet it down good and reel through that.

You'll use a lot less.

Also dont forget to shake the bottle once in a while. That stuff tends to settle on the bottom.

Don't mean to thread jack, but I will... How is the Ardent line conditioner?

I used that stuff once just to try it and went right back to the KVD.

It was too greasy for my taste.

It made any overspray on the reel hard to get off and it left a film on the line that made an oil slick on the water after a cast.

Mike

Where can you get the KVD, my local Dick's doesn't carry it.

bass pro, TW, most online retailers, board sponsors listed to the right------>>>>

Tackle Warehouse

Shoot, I'll have to wait for mail delivery. Does TW also sell JJs Magic.

Academy sells Superfly line conditioner. I think it's pretty decent too. I haven't found any that blew me away yet.

Your going to love flouro after you put that l&l on it

I'm pretty sure the inventor of L&L does not recommend using a rag to apply. I just pretreat my filler spools, and reapply after fishing. It needs to dry in work it's best.

Ok

I use nylon to apply while spooling to insure that all the line is treated on the spool.

And also before each trip.

Pre treating a filler spool instead is a good tip also.

Mike

Have another tip for you.  Clean your sonar unit screens with the KVD L&L.  Works great.

I bet it's good on egg's too but haven't tried it yet.  Awesome stuff.

KVD Line and Lure..."I put that sh!£ on everything"

I use it for mouthwash. Minty fresh!

Don't forget to apply it to your rod guides! Also no other product comes close to this IMHO, as a lot of other conditioners are petroleum based, and or merely coat your line. KVD LL soaks into your line and amazingly is not greasy. Like others have said, the night before makes a big difference.

Well I went to TW site, but the KVD L and L Is on backorder till the 11th... So I ended up getting some JJs and 3 packs of Zoom Horney Toads... And I thought I built up some self control...what a turd I am.

A long, long time ago in a fishing world that was different, Ike did a presentation at a seminar in Richmond, Virginia where he showed us how he sprays the line conditioner onto a wash cloth and then runs the line through it while spooling his reels.

He followed up on this idea in some of his DVDs.

I have been doing it for years. Just spray to a make a wet spot on a wash cloth and then holding the wet area between your fingers run the line onto the spool.

Ike says by doing this it removes the "powder" left behind from the manufacturing process.  I have no idea if this is true. I do believe that by cleaning the line with the line conditioner it is beneficial.

Bass Pro Shops has its new line conditioner available. Thinking of trying it to see how it performs.

Sam, I think the issue with KVD L&L product specifically is that wiping it alters the polymer, reducing it's sealing characteristics.

Ike isn't nuts, some lines do have a powdery film on them. Wiping them off isn't a bad idea. I know I wipe braid when I spool, but I don't use anything in the paper towel.

Ripinlips, that's a good tip as well. I'm not as fastidious with my bass gear, but I treat the guides on my steelhead float rods. I fish for trout in freezing temps, and although they have tall frame, large guides, the freeze up. L&L makes it easy to simply whack the rod just above the handle and knock the ice free.

Good tips guys.
