Exchanging Broken Veritas??

First day out on the lake today and I broke my new Veritas. I got it from BPS about a month ago and was wondering if I'll be able to exchange it for a new one? Has anyone had any experience with exchanging broken rods with BPS?

You broke it the first time using it? What happened? Was it on a hookset?

If it broke during normal usage, I think BPS will probably take it back no problem.

If it broke on a hook-set I'm sure BPS would take it back. You could also email Abu and they will fix you up. Not an uncommon occurrence with that rod. But when you get a good one, they are great.

I was fishing from my kayak and I got too close to some brush getting a lure out of a tree. The tip of the rod got caught in the brush and I heard a snap. It broke about an inch and a half off the tip.

I would take it back to BPS. I had a veritas break on me two years ago after using it for about two weeks and they took it back without any hassle.

That's what I'm hoping they will do. It was my nicest rod so I'd rather not have to buy a new one.

Since when snagging a rod on a brush is considered "manufacturer´s defect" ?

So, let me get this straight.  YOU broke a rod of YOUR fault, and you expect it to be covered by either the manufacturer or the retailer? 

Where's Irene, this is the most ridiculous thread I've ever read.  There are so many things wrong with it that I can't even begin to alliterate them.  Frankly, it makes me furious.  It's attitudes of entitlement like this that lead to higher costs and lower availability of quality products from a large variety of retailers. 

A warranty does not cover neglect or misuse, nor should it be expected to.

So you got snagged, paddled into the brush and your rod caught on the brush and broke? Doesn't sound like BPS's fault to me. 

 

That's right in line with breaking it in a car door.

Hooligan is absolutely correct. That being said, I know from working at BPS, if you are straight up with them, they will most likely exchange it. I have seen some pretty wild stories about how this rod or that reel broke and BPS always comes through.

I know it's my fault that I broke it and realize that it's not covered by the warranty. I was just wondering if BPS would replace it because I have heard of them doing that for people.

yeah, we all make mistakes and we have to pay for them and learn to live with them. Why I, and you for that matter, have to pay for HIS MISTAKE ? This and many other reasons are why the costs of operation of enterprises rise and we pay for them !

Alright....I agree with the old farts, but everyone just needs to simmer down. I might be wrong, but I thinks I see's a kid here who broke his new toy, and is bummed about it. We don't all need to turn into grumpy old men on him to make him understand that if you break stuff sometimes you are S.O.L......live and learn.

Nobody's making you or I pay for anything. If you're afraid of production costs going up as a result of someone returning a broken rod, I would suggest taking up another hobby. I hear that golf is nice.

Where do you think BPS is going to make that money back when they give him a new rod? It all gets evaluated at the end of the season and item costs are raised if needed. Nothing is free, and nobody should pay for someone else's mistake.

 

This generation (my generation) wants everything handed to them, and if something goes wrong then someone else should pay for it. At times I am embarrassed to be part of this generation. (this was not directed at the OP)
