Anyone willing to go out fishing this Wednesday? I'll be out in the Canandaigua lagoon or banking it at honeoye.

I too fish the lagoon. There are some real SLOBS in there. I need to ask, where is the good bank fishing on Honeoye? Or better to ask where is the access? I have never fished Honeoye from shore, boat only.

I went out for 2 hrs today with my little brother on the canal. Caught a bunch of small small mouth and rock bass. Then had a 3' pike absolutely destroy my chatterbait. I ended us killing the poor thing on accident because It took me too long to get the bait out of its mouth. of course the day I leave my pliers in the car I catch a pike.

Any advice on good places to go on the canal to fish from shore? I went with a friend of mine many years ago and we killed walleye. I believe it was near the old Mobile Chemical near 350 and 31.

Honeoye you're limited, I fish from a friends boat to my canoe, canandauigua lagoon I beat the bank and sometimes drag the canoe, when it becomes overgrown I'm going to get a kayak.

Went out yesterday evening for about 2 hrs and picked up 7 nice LM and one big Pickerel.

Cool and windy as hell today...Not a good day. Wind really makes for a miserable day for fishing, especially when the anchors wont even hold. And apparently 10-20 mph really means 25-30 mph.

Went out on honeoye today 7-5 caught over thirty fish on white spinnerbaits, spooks, and fishing holes in the weeds. Biggest was 3lbs, tons of 1-2 lbsers. Noticed the bigger end held the outside wrecking at about 9-12 feet deep, even caught a walleye on a senko

Was out on Friday morning for about 2 hrs. before the d**n rain came again. 4 nice LM and 9 Pickerel. Not a bad couple of hours. Last two days have been cold and rain. What gives with the weather? Its 55 right now and a hard NE wind. Where is summer????????

I don't whack them good all the time. This past week was tough. I don't know if it's a compliment or not when at the local opening day tournament, I had multiple guys come up to me and say...."we don't feel so bad about sucking today if you struggled"......which I did.

I was just there Sunday volunteering to take cub scouts out fishing from 8:00 til noon.  Fish were pretty aggressive on Senko's around weeds and I caught 50+ fish and the scouts with little fishing experience did OK too.   Only a couple fish over two pounds though, most were 11-14 inches.   Avon Anglers had their Father's Day tournament there as well, and it only took around 10-11 pounds to win, and low 7 pounds to cash.   I was watching everyone around me hoisting fish all day as well.   Larger fish will be the issue.   Water temp was 72 degrees and the south end had a brown algae bloom thing going on, while the north end bloom was more green and to a lesser degree.

Regarding Honeoye...

 

I was only there once this year, but I've been plenty in years past.  I've only fished it out of my kayak, though, so I only have a good sense of the north end, where I launch.  For about 50-100 yards off the shore around the top end of the lake, it is pretty weed choked.  Though I've never really committed to it, I imagine that a frog worked across that slop (particularly the shoreside edge) might be pretty productive.  My best luck, however, has always been working soft plastics on the deeper weed edge, which usually occurs about 9-12 feet or so.  If you don't mind snagging a bit, try a drop shot (with really anything) along the weed edge.  Another good performer there has been a jika rig.  But, my best bass have almost always come on an unweighted t-rig senko style worm or a wacky rigged senko.  I have had very limited luck after summer sets in on any type of moving bait (spinner, crank, swim jig) given the weed growth and, oddly enough very little luck with a jig.  If a jig is a confidence bait for you, I'd suggest giving it a go on the outside weed edge.  Also, if you're big on deeper cranking, that might be an option. 

 

One other suggestion is that Honeoye has docks every 20 yards or so.  I've never really gotten the hang of working a dock out of my kayak (much better out of my boat), but I always see boaters working the docks.  I've got to imagine that Honeoye is like any other lake and that by the time the sun is full on the water, the bass will be seeking some shelter there.       

 

My experience on Honeoye is quantity over quality.  I'd say my best bass there is maybe 3lbs.  But, I've had days there that I ran out of plastics catching 1-2lb fish.

Quite a day on Honeoye saturday

 

My partner (PAGreg) and i started the day working some topwater, he got a few hits and caught one short bass on a buzzbait. Then we started flipping docks. It turned out that the deeper we got into the docks the better as we caught a ton of fish up under the docks and boats moored to them. You couldn't just be close you HAD TO BE up under them!. Id say we caught close to 40 fish between the two of us on Beavers, Jigs, Flapping Hogs, Rage Craws, Jigs and chatter baits. colors were blues, greens and black and blue for the most part. We just couln't find that bigger fish, we caught tons in the 1.5 - 2lb range and had a great time but man finding that one kicker eluded us. we ended up fourth with 9.3lbs, 1 Oz away from cashing a check. leaders had 11lbs and change and the lunker was 3.12.

 

all in all we did pretty d**n good imo since it was a new lake to us. the key was being in and deep under the docks!

 Man..................Silver lake continues to be in the worst post spawn funk I have ever seen it in my life. I have fished that lake seriously for 10+ years now and have not had a two week stretch this bad...maybe ever. I have bombed my first three tournaments this year (kind of my own fault trying to force a bite that's not happening, hoping it turns on while I am grinding away), the weights to cash/win these tournaments have been pretty sub-par, no one has broke 14 lbs for 5 fish yet, and in the 3 fish tournaments, 11 has won both, with staggering fall offs to 6-7 lbs to cash, with most guys reporting junk fishing all day for  the 5 or 3 bites.........MAYBE... but some guys are cashing with less than a limit. The winning bags in two of the tournaments came from literally PARKING on a 100 yard square grass mat in 3' of water, for 8 hours, and making 10,000 casts with a frog over the top during the day............I just can't do that LOL, I would go nuts. I know there are fish to be had somewhere else but it seems like I am at the wrong place/wrong time all the time right now. I am never going to be the guy to blame something else for my lack of results, but this is been an epic struggle the last two weeks for almost everyone. Just goes to show you that even some one who basically lives on the lake, and fishes it 100's of times a season can be stumped at times. Even during my weeknight after work trips, I am struggling to get 2-3 bites.Yesterday MIGHT be the start of the end of the funk, as my buddy caught 6 in the morning, and I caught 6 in the afternoon...we'll see. I'll wait for the holiday idiot boaters to clear out before I go back out there.

Hit little lake the other day...struggled for a good bit. Bite was pp to ba at best. We did figure something out though...not tellin until after the tourny i have there coming up though lol

Friday was a good day after three straight days of storms and a 20 degree temperature drop. Bunch of bass and a few pike. Saturday and Sunday were tough though.

It's slowly getting better.

Went out today and caught a few. Then I punched a mat felt a bite and set the hook. There was a huge weight on the line, so big I thought it was a log, but I felt alot of pulling. I was pretty excited till I got it up and saw that it was a giant freaking snapping turtle. I was pretty disappointed I thought I had a pb on the line lol
