I fished the annual opening day 3 fish limit tournament on Silver today. I did OK....or should I say my partner did OK. You fish as individuals, but since we used his boat, he has terminal cancer, and

He’s still fishing don’t think he’s posting as much. I see him every week at the firing pin but he said he might not be going on Thursdays depending on how the league is on silver this year

Thanks, was just curious.  I enjoyed reading his reports.  Glad to hear he's still fishing.

It would take a lot to stop @ww2farmer from fishing!

the Alex Bay to Lake Ontario was excellent until a bunch of us catch and release guys sore mouthed just about everything. Some multiple times. Those red dots in the jaw do not lie.  They stopped hitting everything in our boxes

Why would you keep catching the same bedding fish?

We were not catch any of spawning fish. We were trolling in 10 feet with floating Rapalas.  Every fish up here eats the different types of Gobies.

But This year we have a problem. Only a few LARGE or last years class of fish.3 or 4". The pike & panfish are gone.   Covid ?  We did not fish up here last year.

The loss of all fish is so great . That only a stray Cormorant & seagull are visible.  Normally I chase dozen out of our fishing areas.  Just realized that all the terns are also gone to.

There were no small Gobies in the shallows.  There are several different invasive weed beds. But no panfish in them.

I will rig up for the 20 to 60 foot depths to see if they are empty also.

Anyone else finding this to be a very off year?

I'm confused.  Your previous post made it sound like you were catching the same fish over and over, which led me to believe you were takin them off beds.

I haven't been on the river yet this year but the BPT guys and my local team trail wore the smallies out.  Seems to be alive and well.

T hank you for letting me know I am getting to old to fish like I used to. At 83 1/2 I no longer am out at before sunrise.  I am lazy & start at 9. Am done by 4 or 5 PM.  The fish are DEEP in the weeds. And almost on the cool bottom.

I & others over the years have trained them to NOT BITE in bright sunlight.  6 am to 7 pm.

We are just recovering from record low water levels in our river bay.

I hit up Hemlock lake last week with a new kayak...Not the best day to fish that place for the first time ever, with 20+ MPH winds there was white caps out there. Still got into a bunch of small fish but could absolutely not believe how fast I drifted from the launch. Really looking forward to getting back there on a somewhat calmer day, and once my kayak is rigged a little better. Mostly just fished along shore catching dinks along the way. Any suggestions on depths if I want to target smallies out there? Hard to tell with no fish finder at the time.

20ish is a good starting point. I'd want a graph though.

Already ordered one after saying I'd never get into using electronics on a kayak. There were fish surfacing everywhere but I don't think they were bass.

Before this year the earliest I caught a fish, much less a Bass was March 28th in the upper Capital Region.

My first fish this year was a Largemouth Bass and it was on March 25th at one of the local ponds. It was ice free for a week before I went and tried my luck.
