what do most of you guys prefer for tx rigs? i thought of switching to off set round bends. but do you tex pose them like ewg hooks? also what are the general concencous on straight shanks?

3/0, 4/0, 5/0 or 6/0. EWG for most "fat" soft plastics. For "skinny" baits I like either 1/0 or

2/0 straight bait hooks. For "big" baits like a

Thumper, 5/0 Offset Round Bend Worm Hook

is perfect.

I would agree with Roadwarrior on this but would like to add something to this. You talk about Tex Posing. I found that Gamakatsu EWG is the best for Tex Pose of the hook. This is based on the position of the hook point to the eye on line up. I found that once Tex Posed the point stays in the bait much better. Owner although an excellent and strong hook does not lend itself well for Tex Posing.

I like a 5/0 Owner Twistlock hook for plastics. I really love the Twistlock Centering Pin, it holds the bait extremely well. I've never had a problem with burrying the hook in the plastic. It's also stout enough for flippin', which is an added bonus.

I use the offset round bend 3/0-5/0 for texas rigging pretty much all plastics. I prefer the RB hooks and how the point is lined up after TX rigging...no idea if it really makes a difference though. If you're texposing the hook I can see how an EWG hook may work even better.

Another vote for Gama. EWG hooks varying in sizes 1/-5/0 depending on size of soft plastic.

EWG gammy for horny toads, flukes, soft swimbaits, etc.  Straight shanks for curly tail worms, straight tail worms, or any other type of worm.

I select hook size based on worm thickness

2/0 for plastics the thickness of a Zoom Trick worm or thinner, 3/0-5/0 far plastics up to the thickness of a 6" Senko at which time I switch to a Strike King Saber Point Round Bend Offset.

The only EWG hooks I use or keel weighted or for Rage Tail Eeliminator & these are Mustad.

I use straight shank VMC Fast Grip hooks (good hooks for the value) in any soft plastic that I'm pitching. I honestly felt that switching to a straight shank helped stick more fish than the EWGs I used to use.

I use a big 5/0 VMC EWG hook (looks more like a 6/0) for my 10" worms but thinking I should try a big offset worm hook. I wasn't having any hooking problems tho with that big EWG.

EWG I tex-pose and the straight shank I bury the point half way into the plastic body so the barb is in and holds it in place.

I heat shrink a bait keeper onto the straight shank hooks or it'll drive me crazy.

I use EWG's in sizes 1/0-5/0 almost 100% for T-rigging.  Usually get the BPS hooks, never had a problem w/ them.
