Yeah, give us some more info. Line type, reel type etc. I use the arbor know on all my reels with every type of line and it has never failed me.

I read a few posts up and brought another question to mind.  When putting line on a new or empty baitcaster do you loop the line around the whole spool or do you thread the line through one of the holes on the spool and tie a knot?

If you can go through one hole and out the next, that's fine.

Otherwise, all the way around the spool, but it REALLY does

not make a bit of difference.

Sometimes youtube videos the lines are hard to see. 

any knot will work... just get it as tight as possible...

 

one thing is KEY after that...the first few turns of the handle......go slow and easy without much tension until the line is around the spool a few times....then start putting resistance on the line and continue to reel it on.

 

i found that if you put too much tension on the first few turns..it will slip...

the above knots do work, so if you don't have confidence in tying the knot I would use the tape, doesn't hurt a thing and no fuss..

I don't even use a knot. I just put the line through a hole in the spool and start turning the handle. Never had a problem.

Just use tape and save you frustration. If you are putting pressure on the line at at the tape then you've already lost.

Try removing the spool from the reel to tie the knot, it gives you more room to work. Arbor knots work fine and so does the uni knot.

Ive been using the arbor knot for years. If you tie it the right way, it works, if you tie it the wrong way it won't. It's as simple as that.

If the guy can't tie a knot, I wouldn't recommend him trying to remove the spool.

You just got to focus on getting a few turns of the handle with the line wrapping on the spool. As mentioned before it really doesn't matter if you tie a knot, tape the line to the spool, or just loop it and hold it tight enough to get a turn the end result is the same. You just need the line to start filling on the spool. I would recommend tying the knot your most familiar with and when you pull it tight and the spool spins underneath it, failing to wrap, take your finger and manually push it against the spool to get it started, as stated before all you need is one or two turns to get it going. If it still doesn't work I would recommend using the tape, its simple and fast. Literally all you need to do is tape the line to the spool and reel, its that simple.

sorry but this doesn't work. I tried knots, i tried tape, i tried not even using a knot. Every single time, the line is loose when spooled.

Lol, it's not that I cant tie it, it has to be something with the reel. Nice try at humor though  

Tie a square knot, then tie a small square knot in the tag end. Pull tight. Keep holding it tight with your off hand and start reeling with the other. Once you get 3-4 turns it will hold tight. I do it with the spool installed. 

hahaha, I would hope after 2 months you are set now and still not trying to spool up????
