I Used New Yozuri 4# Test

I spooled up my new US REEL SUPER CASTER 180 spinning reel with new yozuri 4# test around November so I'd be all set with my ultra-light trout spinning outfit. I had some casting problems with it opening day last Saturday. I had it coiling up on the rod tip. Today I noticed the line is full of abrasions all the way to the end of the spool. I checked all my other rod setups I spoiled ahead of time and there fine. Even have that happen before with new line?

You can "troll" it out on grass in a field. After laying on your spool for several months

the line has developed a memory. However, trolling the line will eliminate the problem,

especially in conjunction with KVD Line & Lure Conditioner. I have #4 Yo-Zuri spooled

on one reel that is probably 3 years old. This fish was caught under VERY difficult conditions

using the line:  http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/lake-guntersville-2012.html

For the abrasions, check the guides on the rod. Are there any broken or have rough spots (you can run a Q-tip around to check).

A burr on the spool I forgot about that. It's a brand new rod and reel they never been used but I'll inspect it and post what I find.

The line is brand new and it feels like sand paper even down to the knot on the end of the spool.

I had the same issue, nicks in the line, with Yo-Zuri. May have been a bad spool but I've never bought it again.

I would imagine any line would be coiling after being left on a reel since November though.

I bought 1 spool of Yo-Zuri for my shakyhead rod. Line felt rough, was very thick for the lb test I bought, and the memory was terrible. I tried to use it but couldn't stand it anymore after 30 minutes. Took it off and threw it away when I got home and went back to what I was using. I'm sure I just got a bad spool but I wouldn't buy another after that experience.

Well, this is suprising to me, I have never experienced abrasion on new Hybrid.

That would kill the deal for me, too!

I never had a problem with yo zuri line before I have many spools of it here the other new spools feel fine.

I've got boxes of partially full spools of hybrid from 4-12lb, never had one that was tore up from end to end like that. Anything is possible though, could have got a bad spool of it. I'd say recheck your guides / blank before you write it off, it's good line. Check the line roller on your bail for smooth operation.

To remove memory, tie on a jig or something and hook it to a stump or something solid in your yard, walk out 20-30 yards and stretch progressively it til it stops. Walk out some more say, 50-60 yds and keep stretching, or do some "simulated" hooksets. Dont go overboard...its still partially fluoro and will deform if you take it beyond the limit. Now, let the line slack out, should be pretty straight and limp. If its not, keep going til it is. Usually, 4 or 5 good stretches takes any coiling out. Reel it back on keeping some tension with your fingers, add a line conditioner.

My experience is that hybrid is almost always a PITA when you first spool it on, but when you stretch it out, or like RW said, troll it out, that usually makes it handle pretty good for me.

Well I removed the bad line, checked the eyes, the spool lip and the line roller it all looks great. I respooled it with Excalibur silver thread 4# test then I removed some line and it's clean from abrasions. I'll keep an eye on it.

I need to look for that spool of yozuri 4# test.
