Hey everyone,

 

I recently pulled out the fishing rod and tackle box and headed to a few local ponds in the area. I tried just about everything - topwater frogs, crankbaits, wacky rigged worms, live worms, etc. and didn't catch a single bass. I caught a couple sunfish but that's not what I'm aiming for. I was wondering what the best way to fish in this coldish (55-70 degree fahrenheit) is/what the best lures and baits are. I'm mainly fishing small ponds about 30 minutes north of Boston and don't own a boat. Any information helps, and thanks a lot for reading!

I've only gotten 2 so far, one of a jig fished slow really slow, and one off a t rigged rage tail lobster also fished very slow

Nice fish. Tried chatter baits all day Monday got nothing, just picked up some rage blades too haven't fished them yet tho

Fish lower mystic reservoir where te parm is just before the river outlet w crankbaits and soft jerks like a fluke

tonight was windy as all hell but i managed to land my first bass of the season on my rapala perch lure

 

 

and i landed a massive pickerel off one of those sunfish swimbaits by storm

I've only gotten 1 this year so far. I got it on a Carolina rig. I missed a few on jigs too.

You really need to be tossing some suspending hard jerkbaits around here now. Get some X-Raps in Hot Steel. Fish the Quabbin starting tomorrow. You will not be disappointed.

I've had about 50 LMBs so far.  Been ripping them it out with KVD 2.5's and 1.5's.  Natural colors and rattles work great.  Also the Sexy Ghost Minnow or Shad.  Retrieve slow, pauses. jerk.  I was out today and I had the Jonboat in and the water was 59-61 all over Russell Millpond, so the water is plenty warm for the Bass right now.  I'm also located right next to Lowell in Billerica, Ma.  Been catching all sizes from under a 1lb up over 4.5lbs.

 

Also a pig n jig or just a senko, texas rigged or wacky rigged.

 

 

You can find the KVD series at Walmart in Lowell or drive all the way to Hookset, NH at the Bass Pro and they have a much larger selection of the KVD series.  Try them out, you won't be disappointed. 

I'm just south of Boston and caught only 1 dink on a Rapala crank bait, which is better than nothing. I've used cranks, jigs, spinner baits, and Senkos so far.

I have a castable fish finder & it tells me that the water temp is still in the low 40's.

I've seen some small groups @ 10' at one of my regular stops, but not much is moving where I've been so far this year.

It seems to work pretty well.  It's made by Vexilar and sells for around $129, or so.  It looks like a big green/white bobber that sets its own WIFI signal that your 'smart phone' connects to via Vexilar's app.  I use an iPhone 4S and occasionally get connection problems easily solved by restarting the phone.

 

Battery life is decent, and range in plain sight is good.  Because it weighs 4 OZ., you'll want a pretty sturdy rod to cast it with.
