Slide a small ring slice of tube over the R-bend on the spinner/buzzbait, and then use a snap. Its an old time pike and muskie fisherman's trick.

my nephew takes the wire twist ties off bread packages and uses them then nips the tag ends with side cutters seems to work well for him

I am a pretty avid crankbait fisherman come May-September and I never use snaps.  The o rings on baits give the exact same action that a snap does.  To me, the snap is just one more thing to go wrong.

I had a #2 Duo Loc open up on me.  The teeth of this fish actually crushed the snap.  Other than that, no failures with a Duo Loc.

I use a coastlock snap and ball bearing swivel to help prevent line twist when using hardbaits as I only use spinning gear and a ball bearing swivel on bladed Walleye worm rigs which also catches Bass and Pike as well.

Duo-lock snaps and swivels for me, never had a problem with the snaps coming undone either.

#2 and #3 Duo Lock Snaps for almost all hard baits.

Absolutely,on almost everything.

You guys who use snaps should check out breakaway clips or other similar types. They've pretty much made using snaps on lures obsolete in the surf fishing world.

Those breakaway clips look nice, but can they be used with a top water popper or some of the thicker spoons, doesn't look like it.  I surf fish almost daily and I'm sticking with a duolock or loopknot.
