For bottom contact......the rod, for reaction baits the reel...just IMHO.

  • Another vote for the rod.  Sensitivity and the ability to impart action is mostly rod based for me.  Hard to judge because it is a system.  Especially when you add the line to the equation.     Thi

In bottom contact I'll spend more on a rod than a reel.  For all other areas I spend more on the reel.

Another vote for throwing rocks.

I really like silver thread copolymer !

I like to keep it about even. I don't really like to spend over $150 on either. That's my budget and what I'm comfortable with. I find this gives me fairly balanced combos that perform up to and beyond my expectations.

Dee Thomas proved all you need to catch bass is a rod with line and lure, reel isn't needed.

Dee called this presentation "flipping".

State of the art rod with 20 year old reel catches bass, the opposite may not work nearly as good. I upgrade my rods before my reels.

I would say the rifle needs to have a cartridge that fires before the scope does any good.

I would say rod if throwing bottom contact baits and reel if you are throwing moving baits. You want the most sensitivity when throwing bottom contact baits and you want longer casts with throwing moving baits. I personally spend more on my reels, but that is because I have a friend that makes rods for me so I get good prices. It doesn't hurt that they are some of the best rods I have ever used, feel exactly like Powells which are awesome! I have never spent over $200 on a reel, and don't see a need to when you can get a Shimano Chronarch 200E for $199.99 and used Curado E's for around $120!

childish is backhanded comments,

Yin and Yang. I'd rather have a good quality rod and reel than one poor quality and one great quality.
