Made For Braid?

Featured Replies

I dont know if this true or not, but I heard once that the Lews Speed spool BB1 ($159.99) was made specifically for braid. Is this true?

thanks,

It says it has a braid ready spool. Honestly I think it's more of a selling point. I haven't owned a reel that isn't braid compatible.

I think you are mixing up the BB1 with the BB1 Pro. The BB1 pro comes with two holes pre drilled into the spool to thread the braid into so it does not slip. Personally I would never put braid straight onto the spool, but the holes help make spooling much easier with all types of line.

Braid can be run on any reel. All a braid ready spool means is either a non slip coating or a tie off to avoid slippage. i'd run backing just for economy anyway.

I agree  100%.

What ever braid ready system is used on the reel I still tape the arbor before spooling, even conventional reels using with mono.

My smaller bass reels don't hold that much line, for my saltwater reels I want all the line capacity I can get, so I don't ever use backing.
