Tossing Good Lures

Featured Replies

How many times have you taken one of your good lures / jigs taken the time to get your knot just right wetting the line to make sure you don't burn it up, tighten the knot, grab you scissors and clip the main line rather than the tag, toss it in the water only to realize what you have done.

Never done that but I punch myself when I start a t-rig, slide a $2 tungsteon weight on the line, go to thread the hook, have the weight run up the line and out over the water, line slips out of my hand and weight goes plop in the lake.

Once yes, I was under the influence so I don't know if that counts.

I always forget my bullet weight when I'm tying up a t rig. Then I just fish weightless :/

Never done that but I have tied one on and on the first cast snapped the knot and watched the lure sail off into the water. It never seems to happen with floating lures.

Once I threaded the line through the tie on a jig and tossed it in the water............without tying the knot! :laugh5:

One day I was fishing at a pond that's about 50 yards across, I was talking to some while tying on crankbait and forgot to pull it tight and cast it, the knot came undone but luckly it flew across the pond and landed on the bank 50 yards away lol

I have had lines break when I should have re-tied. I lost my favorite buzzbait of all time that way. It sailed off into the trees and I had no chance of finding it. (It looked like a bat-type kite with the propeller behind the head, downward eyes, long hook that would take a large grub. If anybody has ever seen one and knows the maker, please PM) But never because I didn't cinch down a knot or cut the wrong line.

Done that a time or to. As soon as I cut the line, the lure falls to the floor of the boat lol.

I love tying palomar knots with braided line. It has to be a jig with an unruly skirt for maximum fun.

I have lost a few (some with fish attached) settling for "good enough" after trying to thread powerpro on a windy day.

And forgetting the bullet weight at least once is a given.  So is dropping it on the hull of your aluminum boat. ;)

While fishing one day, I decided to tie on a jig and trailer.  The jig was one of Mike Seibert's, and the trailer was, what was then, a Rage Tail prototype given to me by Big-O; the ReCon Worm.  I paid careful attention when attaching the worm to the jig, because I didn't want to lose it.  When I was finished I tossed the jig into the water - without tying the line to it.

When I first started fishing a few years ago. I took the wife and daughter on my canoe to "show off" my newfound skills. So I tied on a $10 buzz bait and threw it (in the beginning of January in NC). I didn't know squat about know tying so I did a double overhand knot. Casted out and "ping", lure flew off and sink to the bottom. :-(

I did it once with a spinnerbait. I've cut the main line instead of the tag line plenty of times, but I've always realized what I'd done before I tossed me bait over the side.

If the main line is cut instead of the tag line after the knot is completed the lure isn't attached, how can it be casted?

I can't remember all the stupid things I've done.

It can't, but if you cut the main line without realizing it and then toss the bait over the side of the boat to start fishing...

Ive done this once before where I cut the main and tossed it in the water. Was more amused by my stupidity then mad.

Never done it since lol.
