What lures/baits do you use on those days you have really windy conditions.  I usually throw a rattle trap on the points till my trolling motor battery is dead- somedays its effective some its not.

I usually start with a spinnerbait and if that doesn't work I switch to a different spinnerbait. Haha

It's hard but I still try slower baits in the wind. I just landed a pb smallie, facing a 30 mph wind, with a fat ika weightless, on straight braided line.

Cranks, spinnerbaits, bladed jigs.

Spinner baits and jerkbaits for me...i also like to go topwater on windy days with a frog around cover and a LC sammy in more open water

I usually switch to a heavier jig or t-rig but squarebills, spinnerbaits, and bladed jigs also join the rotation.

I'd like to know WHY spinnerbait is the overwhelming option?  What is it about the wind / turbulance in the water that makes it so effective at that time?

Prolonged Wind can push baitfish to windward shores is one of the reasons...atleast in my experience

This past weekend I was in up state New York at a cabin on Lake Minerva. It was windy coming from the North and had to scoot into coves just to be able to not get spun around while we were anchored in a jon (pics to come in the Fishing Report section). Luckily on of the neighbors in the cabin next to ours let us borrow the said Jon and trolling motor. Rowing would of sucked. So to make a long story longer I was rotating between 2 different spinner baits. When it was sunny I would throw the white with chrome blades and when the clouds rolled in I would switch to a sexy shad color with gold blades. That seemed to work ok. Fishing was kind of tough that day because of the cool front that rolled in.
