i have the choice of 2 brand new dobyns.

I have the choice between a dobyns 703 and a dobyns 704 for texas rigs. i use 1/4 - 3/8 oz t rigs with mostly craws and 7' worms what would be better?

I would use a 704 for those weights w/plastics.

I like the 703. I have fished the 703dx for 2 and half years tossing weightless 5 inch senkos, caffeine shads, 1/4 oz jigs and 3/8 oz jigs plus trailer with great results. When I tried a 1/2 oz jig plus trailer I felt like the rod was close to its limit. For 1/4 to 3/8 or slightly heavier in light to moderate cover I would pick the 3 powered rod every time personally.

704 for me. I use the dx744 for those weights

To me, the 3-power's sweet spot is 1/4oz weight + plastic. It'll work for 3/8 but if it was me, I'd go 4-power for 3/8and up

Me, perspnally i would go with the 703.

I typically am 1 power behind everyone else on most my casting gear. I do this for castability, control, and for counter balance the braid. Unless you plan on using it in xtreme cover 703 will be fine. I wouldn't go over 1/2...really I don't think I go much over 3/8

The DX 704 is my jig rod. Excellent rod. A lot guys use the 705, or 745. I'm fine with the 4 Power.

Haha I think you're kind of right on the border here where either rod will handle those weights. If you had thrown in 1/2oz lures, 4 power without a doubt imo. Personally I'd probably go 3 power unless you're fishing decent cover.

if the dobyns 3 power is anythin like the powell 3 power id go 3 power with those weights.

I just picked up a 703, but its a savvy. The rod is perfect for the applications it was designed for. If you throw baits on the heavier range of the rods limits then I would say go for a 704.

I'm returning a champ 701sf and if I got into the 73's it's extra. The 70's are straight across. I will pay extra if it's that much better.

I like the extra length. A lot of guys do. It's really personal preference imo.

The 734c is my personal favorite for all around use.  It would be my number one choice for what you're describing as well.  If you're wanting to stick with a 7 footer there's nothing wrong with that.  The way I always do things is I do go UP in power rather than down, I always want to have more rod for when I hook a fish, rather than less rod for casting.  I think you can adjust casting a little bit better than trying to put a fish in the boat with a slightly underpowered rod.  Just my opinion and the way I like to do things.  Now if you are fishing around zero cover and open water, lighter rod is just fine!  Hope this helped rather than confused you haha.  Either way enjoy the rod you choose, hope you catch some big ones on it and have fun!

I have the DX 744 and its a SUPER versatile rod. the 733/743 and 734/744 are usually regarded as the more versatile out of the Champion and Champion Extreme line ups. If you drop down to a 7' I'm sure it will be just the same, just missing the added length.
