Diawa Samurai Braid?

Featured Replies

Looking for a new braided line to fish in grass. I currently have power pro on my flipping rod but every time I pitch it in some grass I hear this terrible sawing noise. I'm afraid I may be scaring the fish away. I hear Diawa samurai is quiet but the trade off is that it breaks. Can anybody back this up, or possibly make any suggestions? Thank you in advance for any info

Daiwa samurai is very soft & supple. Its breaking strength is more similar to the actual line rating than most other braids. To solve the breaking issue just move up to a heavier rating.

Thank you Dwight, I'm currently fishing 20 lb power pro because theveryone grass I fish isn't very thick, I can just feel and hear a slight sawING sound and I don't get many bites. I've heard the samurai braid doesn't break all the time, however it will break. Seems to be a good trade off if I can get more bites

Check out TT site for braided line tests.

Samurai if a softer braid and easy to cast, doesn't break any easier than most other brands. Keep in mind Samurai is a small diameter braid compared to PP. Another alternative is Suffix 832, less expensive and a quite casting braid.

The last spool of Samurai 40 lb I received had dye problems when running the line through a wet rag ( I always spool braid doing this) and removed a lot of the excess dye. Samurai is a good braid.

Awesome, thanks WRB! I'm really only hearing the noise when I "yo-yo" the bait in grass. Kind of defeats the purpose of pitching when your supposed to be quite

When I used braid, I loved Samurai.  It is very soft, and thinner vs. the same size braid of others.  I had no problems with breakage at all!

Which Power Pro are you using?  The older version is very noisy.  I've heard that the new version (Super 8 Slick) is very smooth and thus much quieter.  I am using some of the older braid, but haven't as yet tried the Super 8 Slick.  My Sufix Performace braid was much quieter.

I highly recommend Suffix 832. Works much better than Power Pro.

What does the Suffix 832 do as far as working better than the original Power Pro??

I run Suffix 832 on almost all of my baitcasters. The Suffix 832 is much smoother, much quieter, and I think it holds up better as well. Not to mention, my Father is a die hard PowerPro user and I experience far less line issues than he does (and we both use the same reels).

As far as the PowerPro Super Slick 8, I have one of my spinning reels spooled up with it and I like it a lot better than standard PowerPro. Just not sold on the colors of the Super Slick.

Ithe seems the suffix is definitely worth giving a shot. Plus it's way cheaper lol thanks for the info guys seriously! The noise that power pro makes is starting to annoy me

832 is all I will use, spinning or casting, I have used the Samuri and like it but didn't think it held up to line abrasions as well as 832, which I have never fished a braid that was as good at holding up to abrasion as 832. The Samuri was better than either power pro at holding up to abrasion, just didn't work quite as well as 832, but a very good braid.

I've used Power Pro in the past.....but darned if I don't always find myself coming back to Sufix 832

Yeah I think I'm definitely gonna give the 832 a try. Thanks for the info guys

Carl, thank you for the input! I only have braid on my flipping stick and I mostly use it for pitching up into cover. But as said it just seems like every time the power pro brushes up against the object I'm fishing I get this terrible noise and I'm most certain that it's not causing me to get as many bites.

I follow a person on YouTube by the name of mikeybalzz fishing and that is how I found out about the diawa braid. I see you're on there as well. I'm gonna check out your channel!
