Problem With My Baitcaster. Any Ideas How To Fix It?

Featured Replies

My baitcating reel has recently started having trouble reeling in line properly on the spool. The retriever gets stuck on one side of he reel and will not feed the line evenly out on the spool. Any ideas on how to fix this problem? Any advice would be helpful. Thank you.

The little pawl that's under the plastic cap on the level wind could be worn out. That's just a guess buy I'm sure someone will be able to answer your question.

take the line guide cap off and make sure the pawl is seated correctly on the worm gear. if it had any washers on top of it, make sure you put them back in. It does look like it's worn out though

The correct way to fix your problem is to replace both the worm gear and pawl. If one that worn out, the other is most likely damaged as well. I couldn't make out the reel model, but if you decide to send it in for repair, include your screen name for a 10% discount on labor. Full cost is $22 plus parts and shipping.

Replacing (or at least checking thoroughly) the pawl and worm gear is one of the first things I do after acquiring a new reel.

Delaware Tackle's quote seems extremely fair to me.

This sounds like a good solution from what I have seen.

The worm gear is driven by another gear, usually plastic and it may be broken, the pawl may have broken or worn out as everyone has mentioned.

More than likely you have a worn out pawl and or worm gear. Replace them both and you should be good to go.
