What gear ratio do u guys like for swim jigs? I know 6.4:1 is reccomended and I've been using a 6.4:1 speed spool but sometimes I wish I had a little bit faster reel to take up slack and catch up w/ the fish when they head straight at me. I also use the combo a lot for soft jerkbaits and weightless Texas rigs. Would a n 8.1:1 tatula type r work for this or would I b better off using a 7.3:1 standard tatula?

I have both and use both...but I prefer the Type-R and the 8.1:1 ratio....

There's not a world of difference between the two, or a 6.x:1. It's all personal preference.

Rod length and taper also play a role in line uptake on the hook set and retrieve...also the ratio is one thing but IPT is the number thats important

I've got swim jig rods hooked up with 7.1:1 reels - works for me just fine 

I like 7.1 for fishing shallow. Almost like a wake bait. Everything else is quite 6.4

6.1 or faster.  Not something I think too much about though.

My speed is 7.2.1 8.1 is way fast

Some Guys are using it but have not heard much on it. ( 8.1)

I use the 6:1 regular tatula

I toss mine on a 7:1, it's getting so I like high speed reels for everything now, except deep cranking.
