Topwater Lures

Featured Replies

Does anyone else feel like it's worth buying higher end top water lures or is it just me? I normally go cheap with my lures because I lose them a lot, but I very rarely lose topwaters. That makes me want to buy higher end ones to try out. I have thought about buying one higher end lure for everything (spinnerbaits, crankbaits, swimbaits, etc.), but I figure I'll lose them all the first day. At least I can do it with top water without worrying about losing them.  :eyebrows:

switch to 20lb suffix 832 advanced superline braid and you'll never lose a lure again unless you tie a bad knot or throw it into a tree or something stupid

Braid doesn't lift the rocks I fish. Lol

Do you think is worth "saving" by purchasing cheaper lures ?

I'd rather lose one $3 lure a day as opposed to one $6 lure a day, so yes.

Braid floats and what do you mean "lifts the rocks"

I fish boulders, once the lure gets in a crevice, ite gone. I've used braid where I fish and it doesn't work out any better than mono.

For a top water braid would help, but I fish different lures on the same rod so it would just be a waste of money for me.

If you are wanting to through down some cash on a topwater lure, I would start with the pop max from megabass.  It's a pricey, work of art that catches fish.

I would say no. The Rebel Pop-R, Spook, Spook Jr, and Rattlin Spook, Snagproof Frog, and War Eagle buzzbait all catch fish just as well as anything from LC or MB. If not better.

BPS FPS TOPNOCKER #25 color number 1 topwater lure.

It's discontinued sorry.

Rebel pop r blue. #2 topwater popper.

Mister Twister top prop in fire perch #3 use a very slow steady reel or a 1-2-3 pause or a long pause as it falls vertical the bass kill it.

I have every color made in the top prop I just haven't tried them.

I have the high roller lures in poppers and props and they work too.

Some lures with orange bottoms work better than non Orange bottled lures. You will also find that orange bottom cranks catch more fish too.

Live target field mouse is a great top water!

I think every bait has its place, expensive, high end topwater baits have high detail finishes along with good hooks and different actions. I often think because the cost is high that not many guys use them and the fish don't see these baits so they aren't conditioned and therefore they get bit but there are times when the opposite is true. If you like using a high end bait then do so, I don't see them as a waste as they have good hooks and detailed finishes that are done by hand, you have to pay for that kind of quality.

Not worth it if your a bank fishermen and on a budget.  I've learn my lesson, on my kayak different story

I do love expensive topwaters. However Zara Spooks and Pop-R's work just fine. I throw Gunfish, Sammies, Popmax, and Giant Dogs, but my PB Smallmouth came on a KVD Sexy Dawg that I got for $3.  :Idontknow:

Try blackwater cedar top/ props outta Florida...

Best topwater bait I ever used... Custom baits! But worth every penny about the price of a LC bait... But WAY better....

Yea right, because alligator gar, pike and musky could never eat thru braid, right? Or could it just be they won't strike topwater baits?
