Fat Albert Grub

Featured Replies

I recently picked up a pack of these in the Junebug color; anybody ever have success with these?

I tried putting one on my black on black cavitron but didn't help me any.

I'm trying to use these things more often! Any help would be spectacular

I watched a video where a guy swore by the chartreuse/pearl single tail fat albert grub for his pitching and flipping set up. So I ordered a pack. Haven't gotten them yet.

Good swim jig or spinnerbait trailer.

I use them as swim jig, spinnerbait, and buzzbait trailers also! Great little bait, holds up pretty good too and isn't expensive.

So, what colors do you guys SUGGEST? Chartreuse/white, etc in clear colors and Junebug/darker in muddy?

Also, when you guys say swim jig--what exactly do you mean?

I fish Fat Alberts all the time - a very versatile bait. As already mentioned, they can be used as a trailer, on a jig-head, or fished alone.  I rig them weightless and weedless on a 1/0 EWG hook. You can swim/pop them on top, or let them soak for a few seconds and swim them back sub-surface.  Since they are rigged weedless, you can drag them over slop and let them sink into holes, etc.

Color?  I typically only use one color - Watermelon Green Orange Flake.

Not a big fish bait by any means, it's mostly a numbers bait. However, this ole gal must have been in a diet and only wanted a light meal when she sucked up this Fat Albert back in June.

That's a Fat Albert WAY down there...

Her diet wasn't working very well - she still looks a bit "chunky" !

Picked up a bag of green pumpkin last evening. Looking forward to slinging a couple this weekend. Figuring on dropping them into some holes in the weed beds.

Hey Hey Hey man me and the gang use them on a jig head. Smoke or green pumpkin works great for us. Weird Harold like pearl also.

I saw whatcha did there.

One of my go to baits in early spring and fall. The bass in my avatar is my biggest LM ever and it was caught in early spring 2012 on a pearl white Fat Albert grub.

Absolutely deadly baits.

Great grub, big enough to rig texas style with an EWG hook and weight. I fish them like a plastic worm.

Jighead or on a split shot rig with a 1/0 wide gap hook, they're a killer. Like others mentioned they're a great trailer too.

Fat Albert is actually not one that I prefer.  Its a fine grub, nothing wrong with it.   But I am more so impressed  by Mr. Twister 5" FAT grubs.  I like the big, meaty body, and the tail is large and broad.  Not quite as supple as the Kalins tail, but still gives great action even on the fall.    Also, I find this to be the best grub for jig trailers.  It is a phenomenal presentation - for a grub.
