I'm thinking about returning my curado I and getting a td-zillion . What are your thoughts? Input welcome.

Just doesn't seem any better than my sons citiga and cost more. I have to try different line but the citiga cast better so far. The lever to close it when u adjust the brake often is hard to close . Some times I have to loosen the friction knob to get it to close.

Maybe nuts, maybe not. It's hard to diagnose why you're having those problems over the internet. I can definitely say that the Zillion is a fine reel and if you're looking to cast baits 3/8 oz and up, you'll be very happy.

The cast control knob pushes on the spool shaft which the other end pushes against the non handle sideplate. So if you have to much spool tension it can make it hard to get the non handle sideplate back into position easily.

I had the same problem with a shimano reel before. If that is the issue is a very easy fix. I can't comment on whether or not you should get anther reel though. Both are supposed to be great from I've heard.

To fix that problem simply remove a shim from the cast control knob.. I'm guessing they put 2 in their originally so just take the inner one out.

I have zero issues with mine, however if you don't like it... Try a Zill... I owned Diawas for 20 years... They are good reels too, 2 nd to Shimano, but still very good... Lol!!!!

It sounds like you didn't get the learning curve from shimanos newer braking system. The citica has a very simple set and forget system. Whereas the svs infinity takes more time to configure it. If you put more time into it you'll find it can surpass the older braking.

Besides the braking, it is far batter than a citica in any category

Oh now now. Don't be silly. We all know quantum makes the best reels.

I prefer the Zillion and most Daiwa reels. I appreciate the braking system, even the placement of the dial. Just need to use your thumb for anything and everything. Plus the upgrades are endless and I feel it palms better than most.

Never remove shims from a cast control cap. Loosening the cast control prior to replacing the side plate is standard procedure. Frequent adjustment of cent. brakes shouldn't be necessary either.

I have a high speed zillion and do like it but I tend to like my Shimano reels better.  In general, I find myself getting more backlashes with the Zillion and the braking seems inconsistent.   It also does not cast small lures well,  3/8 oz lures and above work the best.  I find myself messing with the brakes more often with this reel.

 

I can't speak for the Curado I but maybe you just need to give it some time.

i'm not sure what your expectations are. casting distances isn't everything...in fact, i have a $50 abu-garcia black max that will outcast any of my $200 reels distancewise. typically, as you move up in class of reels, the reel will be sturdier, be smoother and stay that way longer, be more rigid, smoother and more consistent drag...things that are perhaps not immediately apparent. you say you're disappointed because your curado costs more than the citica but a zillion costs even more.

 

in any event, the zillion is a fine reel but so is the curado (i've had a few of each but not the curado i). in my experience, the curado handles lighter lures better and the wide spool is friendlier with braid. upgrade if you want but i hope you're not expecting the zillion to be world's better.

I'm going to keep it. Works good for spinner and buzz baits. I got a daiwa alphas type f and am liking it as well. Got a fuego on the way !!! All the reels are different gear ratios.

the zillion is bulletproof and will last for years with proper maintenance. I prefer daiwas though so take it with a grain of salt. Personally id get a tatula and have money left for line and a couple baits if you get the tatula from the right place
