Uni To Uni - How Many Loops

All,

I usually tie 5-7 on the braid, and depending on the diameter of the leader, 5-7.

The thicker, the lesser...

I only use it with braid 20lb or less and FC 8lbs or less.

I do 5 wraps with the FC and 8 with the braid

Don't use braid, but for backing to main line knot i use 3 and 3. I want the smallest knot possible in the middle of the spool.

I used to do 6, ive been doing 5 lately with no problems.

I did the same but would only do 2. That's the minimum to make it hold. Now I just tape everything since it doesn't matter. I tape my spool and backing every time now.

The uni depends on the line for me but generally 5 or more maybe 4 if the leader is really thick.

None, I use a more secure Alberto Knot.

Depends how slippery the braid is.  I'll do up to 10 wraps on Power Pro Super 8 Slick and up to 15 on nanofill.  I usually do more wraps on the braid end than the [insert translucent plastic fishing line] side for fear of knot failure with the plastic line.  Braid loves unis but monos, not so much.

I try to get both knots to be about the same size and adjust the number of wraps according to braid/leader thickness.  Right now I'm using 5 wraps on the braid (10#) and 4 wraps on the FC (8#) and haven't had any problems.  This is on a ML spinning rod.

If you want to use this knot, and increase the diameter of thin braid to better match the leader, look up the spider hitch knot. It an easy knot that doubles up the braid. Diameter will serve you better than more wraps.

6-7 seems to do well

I love learning new knots ... this is a new one.  So when you tie the spider hitch how do you recommend tying the leader to the newly formed doubled up braid?  Are you suggesting a uni to uni at that point?

For regular rod guide sizes, I use 6 turns on both lines.

For micro-guides, I use 6 turns on the fluorocarbon and 8 turns on the superline-the longer knot gives it a taper that passes through the small guides better.

Most of my combo line setups are 8# mono equivalent diameter superline and 20# fluorocarbon.

Yep, the diameters will be more closely matched, and therefore less chance of slipping.  Though, I really feel an Alberto is  FAR superior knot.

I am working on my Alberto.   :cut:

Have zero confidence in it so I tend to use it when I am "fun fishing" until I gain confidence in it.  Have a ton of confidence in the uni to uni right now.

I used to have confidence in fishing a Uni to Uni connection.... I'm pretty confident that it will break when I tie it now.

I use a Uni-toUni with 30 lb. Power Pro to a 20lb. fluoro leader... I use five turns on the fluoro and 10 turns on the braid.

Tight lines,

Bob
