Huddleston Is Coming Out With A Swimbait Rod!

A friend of mine called excited about his new 806 Huddleston swimbait rod. I didn't know Huddleston was making rods! Apparently Irod is custom making spiral guide wrapped 806, 8' 6 power 4-10 oz lures specifically for Huddleston, about $250.

Hey Ken always said make sure you have the right rod for the job, well now there's no excuse.  Does look like a nice rod though.  Be nice to get a set of hands on one and see how it feels.

Eventually I think almost every rod will be spiral wrapped (or should be). I don't know why it is not more of a thing already. It seems to only be a big bait type deal right now.

I think it's because people can't get their heads around the concept.  It seems counterintuitive to have the guides in anything but a straight line.  In the custom world, I see as many rods built spiral than not.

If the Don father uses it I'm sure it's got some benefits to it! I love my LDC rod's but I may just have to scoop one of these up and see what it's about. I like the full grip in the rear.

I couldn't agree more!

The don father lives on here as well? Don wish you would chime in serums in your thoughts in other big bass threads!

I can't tell if that was sarcasm J. It almost seems like it just cause of how its worded :P

I did a IRod search that pulled this thread up, so thought I would drop the vid of the rod being used. I'm going fish harder on this thing and push it a little more. I hope I can handle it LMAO!

Not sarcasm, I use comic sans font for that.

Quantum made a spiral wrapped Gary Klein flipping stick that was a 8' heavy power rod back in 2002 or 2003. I remember guys saying he was using a custom rod because of the spiral wrapped rod with green blank but it was his signature flipping stick from Quantum but not many took to spiral wrapped rods.

I've got a buddy in Oregon that's been fishing with it and he says the rod is legit.

FYI, there are other production rods with spiral wraps, namely LDC.

Hi Don.

I think I'd call the LDC production rods more like a "prebuilt custom."  They're still one guy building rods, and even though they're not really "custom," they are craftsman level product, not factory built. Maybe I don't know what I mean, lol.

Boyd Duckett talked about testing spiral wrapped guides, but said testers and the public couldn't accept it.

I would think you need to have rods in stock to be considered production. I waited like 2 month for the first LDC I had to be made.

I got a couple LDC's with spiral wraps. First rod I ever had that was spiral wrapped and I like it. The feedback from Don and Colby it seems to be a pretty nice stick. But from Don's feedback on FB I think it may be more suited for the 8 in. hudd which I don't throw nearly as often as the 68 or the standard 6 in. He said Ken had this rod designed with the bigger baits in mind. Don's feedback was that it didn't seem to have flex that some people may want in the rod. Compared it to an XH LDC

I don't like the production LDC for throwing top hooks. I feel it has to much flex for slamming home a hook on big baits. I am sure it would be just fine if I used braid though. They are awesome for anything with trebles though.

These trebles are big enough to slam home too though ; )  Just hit my 50th DD on a LDC Pro XH . Pretty Stoked about that.

Don, tell us your thoughts on the top hook ROF5. Are you happy?

I always wanted a jig hook ROF 5 myself. I like it.  (all jig hooks should be opened up some on hudds) I think I've been using more weedless that open hook though. When I know I'm cover free i like an open hook better for sure. The ones I have are on mark  ;)

Ya I know about your 50th. Butch posted it on Facebook. Congrats man and keep sticking them!!
