So for those of you who use St. Croix rods and know them, what do you guys think of the new 2015 Avid X rods from St. Croix? They are made from SCIII blanks.

 

I just blindly bought the AXC70MF at Cabela's as I had a $125.00 dollars gift card, a $20.00 dollar off coupon etc. Paid $65.00 out of pocket with a round up.

 

The AXC70MF is a 7 feet long and medium fast action. I normally run cranks that are 1/2 to 5/8 which is within the rating. Sometimes I run 3/4 jigs which I'm sure it will handle fine.

 

I have have a medium-heavy moderate action St. Croix Eyecon and Mojo Bass and I have a hard time feeling strikes on it so I'm hoping the medium will be a little more sensitive.

 

Also I've read that the SCIII is a huge upgrade from the SCII in terms of sensitivity.

I don't have that exact model, but I love my avid. I think you made a great buy

I have the same model in Tournament series LTBC 7'1" MF, and I love it.

Mostly, I use it for throwing Fat Ika and Fluke.

The sciii is a big step up from my experience. Nice buy.

Forget the smaller sized bass that rod can handle some big ones and more.

I have the 7' medium/fast action rod from the normal Avid series. I believe the blanks are the same. It's a step up in sensitivity compared to the Mojo.

 

It has a little bit softer tip than most regular fast action rods. The power to me is in between a medium and medium/heavy.

Any model avid is a fine sensitive stick, good purchase.

I don't get why you're missing strikes. Cranks are a reaction bait, most of the time fish set the hook by themself. The SCII rods are plenty fine for that.

Yeah I don't know either. Sometimes I'll be reeling in my bait and all the sudden I'll notice my line just got tight. I won't really feel a strike, it just gets tight. Sometimes I'm snagged in weeds or on something and other times it's a fish!

It's the nature of the fish, sometimes they hit a moving bait pretty hard and sometimes they don't.  I've had 10" bass give me a real whack, and I've had 6 pounders where I thought I snagged some weeds.

A more sensative rod might not help you there, it just might make you react faster when you feel a stop that will still be a snag.

With a more sensitive rod you have to learn a bit more about the increased feel, still comes down to: when in doubt set the hook!

x2. That's a nice al around bass blank. Pretty stout for the Med power label. 

SCIII blanks are a big step up. Combined with flouro or braid you'll feel pretty much everything. My next rods will almost definitely be Avid or Avid X series.

The SCIII offers a very noticeable step up in sensitivity over the SCII. For that price you got an absolute steal!
