Seaguar Red Label As Leader Line?

Featured Replies

Is the seaguar red label ( normal line, not leader material) suitable to act as an leader material? It is very cheap and it can last me a long time, just wondering can anyone give me your personal opinion?

Sorry for repost ! I did some searching but couldn't find anything related

A lot of people use Red Label as leader material.  It won't be as strong as a fluoro meant specifically for leaders but it will work just fine and be a heck of a lot cheaper.

Thanks for both of your reply. How does it feels like? Weak abrasion resistance? memory?

How about the visibility under water?

It's all I use. Never had an issue with it.

Pretty sure that is all "Tomustang" uses...and not just for leaders, but as a main line as well (when using a fluorocarbon line).  Maybe he will pop in with comments on his experience with it.

Haven't used it myself.  Have very, very little experience using fluoro.  One of my reels spooled with fluoro is a brand some claim to be inferior.  I found its breaking strength to be plenty good enough for its size rating.  What I didn't like was how much line I had to cut off from fraying where it broke.

Thanks all ! I am currently using braided as main line and searching cheap fluorocarbon as leader line due to tight budget !

I know the line gets a lot of negative comments, but I spooled 15lb on my bait casters to fish plastics on the Potomac and I have not found any thing wrong with it.  It sure is a good price at WalMart for $12.96.

I've never used Red Label (or any fluoro) as a main line, but I used Red Label as a leader (w/ braid main line) for a couple years and it worked great.  I switched to Abrazx this year and feel it IS more abrasion resistant, but you won't be sorry with the Red Label.  (On a side note, I ran out of Abrazx 2 weeks ago and bought a spool of Vicious.  Not impressed.  Not very abrasion-resistant and I can't tie a knot without burning the line.  Even after wetting the line as I tighten it slowly).

First lure you lose on it may change your mind.. I'd save up alil for Tatsu and use the 25# as leader.. its fluoro and I dont find 25# to be all that .. many times Ill go to 50# mono as a leader.. but I throw bigger baits..

All I use.

Yes for sure!  I just took off some Red Label from a reel where I wanted stronger line…what I took off was 12 lb, so I re-spooled it and use it for leader material.

I'm using the 10 lb. as leader and main-line. It's a solid line for the price.

I say go for it. I have a spool, but I don't use it at

this point. I've actually strayed a little from the pure

fluoro leader line lately. I'll still use it, but not as much.

And I bought XPS fluoro to replace the Red Label I have

simply because the spool broke and dinged the line. So

I haven't used it since due to trust issue. Why I haven't

thrown it away, I do not know, LOL.

I use red label and invisx as mainlines. Haven't had a problem yet. I actually started using red label more because it's readily available, even at walmart. It's probably the best cheaper fluro out there
