Curious to know which size spinnerbaits you guys throw and is there a reason for one over the other? Also, do you recommend a brand/model? Thanks!

I throw a 1/2oz. more often than not, for a couple of reasons. Being a little heavier, it's easier to cast, both for distance and accuracy. They also don't roll on their side as easily if I upsize the blades.  If I want to keep it high in the water column, I'll either change to  a larger main blade or add a bulky plastic trailer like a Kalin's Lunker Grub. When I try that with a 3/8, it wants to roll and I have to slow down my retrieve. To me, that's counter productive. The majority of the time I'm fising a spinnerbait in 15ft. of water or less, so there are very few situations where I'd need to go heavier.

I like a 1/2 oz most of the time...why? Cause the bass on Toledo are big

 

I slow roll a spinner bait from bank shallow out to 8-10', by "slow rolling" I keep the bait in contact with the bottom all the way back to the boat. I also like to helicopter it next to brush, stumps, or standing timber.

I throw from 1/4 to 1 oz depending on the situation and water conditions.  Mostly I fish the 3/8 or 1/2.  As for brand, I make my own.  I have tried the store brands and find that they aren't any better than mine.

I rarely go over 1/2oz because I don't like fishing spinnerbaits deep, I use other techniques for deep fish. Most of the time I'm using 3/8oz and 1/2oz, these are easy for me to roll cast into tight spots with a high degree of accuracy and slow rolling for me is using a 1/2oz bait with double Colorado blades just ticking the bottom every now and then in 5' to 7' of water.

Mostly 3/4 ounce...hidden weight spinnerbaits. I fish them into the wind, and these are much easier to cast. I occasionally drop down to 1/2 ounce with some painted blade models. I fish from the bank, and like the ability to cast as far as necessary, thus the 3/4 ounce meets my needs. I use different blade combinations from double willow to single large colorado depending on time of day, weather conditions, depth, and time of year. 

1/2 oz. white or white and chartreuse. If it's really windy, or I need to burn them, but maintain depth, I'll go up to 1 oz. I have some 3/8 oz, but I just use them for sniper style spinner baiting, hitting specific targets.
