Fishing Rod Or Pole

You know, the stick you mount your fishing reel on; do you call it a rod or a pole? Or does it vary from state to state?

Vary from moment to moment for me. I use both terms here and there.  Now that Im thinking more about it Im sure I'll use "fishing pole" or "fishing rod" not just pole or rod.

I always thought fishing pole was a southern country slang thing.

A fishing pole does not have a reel seat IMO.

I used the term fishing pole when I was like 12 1/2 or something, thanks to bassmaster mag. In about 77 I began to call it a Rod.. My father had steel rods, they truly were " rods "

If I am fishing for strippers it is a pole. Everything else it is a rod.

Strippers are often attracted by a rod... and dollar bills.

Usually rod but sometimes I'll say pole.

We use the terms interchangeably, but most often call it a rod. A fishing pole is a cane pole.

Here in the north country, fishermen use a fishing rod.  Those who say "pole" instead of "rod" are usually children, non-fishermen, or folks who didn't have the benefit of an education.

Call it what you want; we all know what you mean!

Tight lines,

Bob

Bob, what do you mean, "tight lines"? Everyone knows it's fishing "string"!

Every time I buy new string for my fishin' pole, I notice it says "Fishing Line" on the box...

I like to try and fool people by sounding like I know what I'm talking about, so I use the fancy term on the box.

Taut strings,

Bob

not really, Tennessee fishing rods do not have reel seats and they are rods. Poles do not have reels.

How about poles don't have guides.

Pole if you're married to your 1st cousin. Lol just kidding.. but I call it a rod.

Raul I guess you are technically correct that a Tennessee rod does not have a seat. Whatever mechanical means you use to attach a reel is "seating" it though...

I usually use the word "rod" when talking specifically about the stick. When I refer to the rod and reel combo as a whole, I sometimes use the word "pole".

I just realized that's what I do too. Interesting.

Fishin' stick.

I know quite a few Polish-Americans that fish, but the only Rod I know doesn't fish at all!
