I'm going to start off by saying that I'm a teenager without a lot of money, so when I am rod and reel shopping I look for something that will be able to cover multiple applications without me having to buy a whole new setup for them. With Christmas coming up, I've decided to put almost all of my gift money towards one versatile setup; A Dobnys 734C with a REVO stx 6:4:1. This setup will be handling jigs, senkos, texas rigs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, and flukes. Probably some more stuff too. WIth such a wide range of baits being thrown on the same setup, I figured i'd need line that could handle everything I will be using. I was thinking 15 pound florocarbon or 30 pound braid, but would like to hear from some of you guys who know more about this than me. I'm fishing in stained FL ponds and lakes, but would like to be able to take it up to NH in some clear water this summer. Thanks for reading.

40lb braid with a leader of a line of your choice for the necessary situation.

I agree with Grantman that braid+leader is the 

most versatile. While he goes with 40, I go with

20lb braid on a baitcaster and 10lb braid on a

spinning rig.

 

Leader material can be anything you want from

fluoro, to copoly, to mono, to hybrid lines, etc.

Agree with the braid and leader. Buy a quality braid that you like and a filler spool of fluorocarbon. You'll be set for a pretty long time, as braid lasts forever.

I second the 40lb braid and leader suggestion. Get get hold of Power Pro and some Youzuri Hybrid. Both lines are very good and very economical. 

As much as I hate braid, it's on at least half my rigs.  So, 40-50# braid, and some various leader materials should keep you covered.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. From the majority of people saying 40 pound braid and a leader, I think that is what I'm going with. I already have tons of florocarbon leader laying around from  saltwater fishing, so I should be set on that. I am also going to get some yozuri hybrid on my current setup because it is onsale and I've seen it reccomended a lot, including in this thread.

Like every body else said, 30-40 lb braid with a leader. That'll cover most applications. Yo-Zuri Hybrid would be a great choice as well, I cant wait to try it.

the 3rd gen revos have a ton of issues, Abu Garcia's quality control on these reels is terrible

For that price range I think a Curado I or really any Lews reel

I 've been using 20 pound braid for a long time now. I used to use a leader of flourocarbon, but since I have micro guides , I stop using it and just used straight braid, I have noticed no difference in catching fish !!!

Yeah, the water is so stained/muddy in most of the places I fish that I could definietly get away with straight braid

I use 20 lb. Braid in clear water lakes and get bit as if I was using flourocarbon !! I think line visibility is overrated ...

I have settled on 30lb. or 40lb. braid w/fluorocarbon leader as my pretty-much-do-anything line; freshwater or inshore salt.

Sufix Lo-Vis Green is the most versatile I've ever used.  The stretch in the line is between typical mono and fluoro.  It's abrasion resistant and retains it's strength even if it gets nicked up.  I use it exclusively when I'm dock fishing because it gives just enough stretch so it doesn't snap when it get's wrapped around the dock obstacles.  Many, many times I've been wrapped up under a dock and I was able to pull the fish out and not one time have I had my line snapped on me.  I use 20lb test which has the diameter of 12lb on typical mono.  I dropped down to 14 pound test fishing cranks, spinnerbaits and top water and it works very well with no hassles whatsoever.  This Sufix line has been the best all around line product I've come across and the price can't be beat...330 yards for about 8 bucks.  Good luck in your fishing.
