Ice Fishing Rods For Travel

Featured Replies

Has anyone used an ice fishing rod for open water? Im taking a trip this winter and dont plan on packing a rod tube but want to get some fishing in. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Never used an ice rod for open water, but I can see how they would travel well. Ever consider a telescoping rod? They aren't super sensitive, but they get the job done just fine. I have a 5 1/2 foot one that collapses down to about 11 inches long, and it is in my vehicle everywhere I go. They make them in all sorts of lengths and actions.

I would look into a travel rod instead.

Check out the Zebco Dock Demon. I bought one for my son's first birthday and "we" have been playing with it in the living room. It's a pretty sweet little combo for as cheap as it is. The drag even stands up to the scorching runs of a 60lb Golden Retriever  :laugh5:  Plus it's fiberglass so it's a very durable rod. Not going to be the most sensitive, but it'll work.
