First Time Swimbait User - Which Jig Head Do I Need?

Featured Replies

I just bought some 5" Berkley Hollow Belly Swimbaits and need jig heads for them. From what I've read, Revenge Hedz are very good. What size would fit a 5" swimbait? 3/0, 4/0, or 5/0? Thanks!

I fish this bait a lot. My preference is a Moaner weighted hook:  http://moanerhooks.com/moaner-products/new-38oz-weighted-stroker-hook/

For the Keitech Swing Impact Fat I use the Buckeye Jig Head:  http://buckeyelures.com/Jwill_swimbait_head.shtml

I wouldn't use a jig head. Use a screw lock hook in 5/0 and your good to go. It also makes the baits last longer.

I use owner 3/4 oz saltwater swim heads for fishing them deep for walleye but I'd guess they could probably be used for any deep predator.

Just to clarify..... I need a 5/0 hook with a 5" swimbait? That would be a 3/4 oz. head. Can I get away with anything smaller/lighter? The 1/2 oz. would be a 4/0 hook and the 3/8 oz. is a 3/0 hook.

Just wondering..... do I need a 3/4 oz. head or can I go lighter?

4/0 is fine. People overuse 5/0 imo anyway.

Yes, you can use smaller than a 5/0 hook on a jighead.   Pick the weights you need and go for it.

I use similar swimbaits, and use weighted swimbait hooks, work great. a #4 or 5 works.

Jig heads yes you can use a 4/0 just not belly weighted hooks.

Huh?

The main decision is the weight.  3/0 or 4/0 weighted hooks will be just fine.
