Newbie To Bass Fishing!

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, just started bass fishing here in the gulf coast of fl a week or so ago, I'm hooked. Grew up salt water fishing my whole life but this is so much more enjoyable. Using a spining reel and 12 pound test, mostly zoom trick worms. I've gotten on to some small bass in a couple local ponds. Got some I plan to try this week, stopped at the local tackle shop and got some different color trick worms, yum dinger worms and super flukes gonna give them a shot. Anyway thanks for having me any advice is appreciated

Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~

Welcome, the only silly question is the one that goes unasked. The wealth of knowledge on here is great and can only be beat by real time experience on the water. Have fun and tight lines!

Welcome to the forums and the sport. In my opinion, one of the best ways to consistently catch fish is by dead sticking a wacky worm, especially a Gary Yamamoto Senko. They just wiggle better than any other bait on the market in my opinion. Give it a try and you will see what I mean! Enjoy.

I have read several articles on it but how are most of you fishing the wacky rig?

Take time a read a lot of these topics. I found myself asking a lot of questions that have already been asked and answered in the past.

The guys on here are full of wonderful advice.

Also pay attention to WHERE you post a topic, I have had trouble with this, trying to work on it.

Read the forums, watch the videos, and most importantly SLOW DOWN.

Don't think about trying a thousand techniques before you even become good at one.

Also, add BassResource on YouTube.

And most of all, WELCOME ABOARD!

Welcome to BR.  Enjoy the forums.  Lots of great folks here.

just dropshot. nothing else is needed. it plain catches fish

Welcome!

Get out while you can. I'm 14 all of my income/presents goes to fishing. But anyway welcome to the forums, and to your question about the wacky worm is a easy thing to master just slow down while fishing it.

Wacky rigging- several ways. Some like to use an o ring to keep the bait longer. Put the ring around the middle of the senko, run the hook through the senko and inside the o ring.

Use an extra wide gap hook, like a 2/0.

Use a finishing nail in one end for extra weight or just a piece of lead shot on the line.

Use no added weight at all.

Count down the senko as it sinks, twitching it slightly as it falls. Watch how quickly it falls to estimate depth you want it to go.

The piece of advice I would give is learn the basics first.

Buy a few baits in a few natural colors and master them.

Don't waste your money buying all of the hype lures and getting every color in the crayon box.

If I had to depend on a dropshot to catch fish, I'd probably quit fishing  :dazed-7:

HAHA. It's not too horrible. I fish a dropshot everywhere. Timber, rocks weeds open water, you name it. I do different variations of a dropshot from 6lb test to 15lb test. I play with the weight leader length to utilize i different situations. I live in California, so its hard to fined a puddle of water everyone and their uncle hasn't fished. Its better than not catching fish and I like catching fish more than anything. That being said, I am getting better with other techniques and i hope i can figure it out how to fish in different ways.
